With all the talk about inaccuracies with the Kapex and now the Makita, I  changed my mind about buying the Makita 12" sliding Miter Saw and picked up the "New" Ridgid 4251 sliding miter saw - and saved a bundle.  I found the accessory movable fence was not square being only slightly out (I'm going thru the manual to see if I can adjust it out).  I don't do finish-carpentry or even build fine furniture.  I do have a small shop and an even smaller budget for a new saw.  I even mounted it on a new HF Hercules Miter Saw stand that I bought with a discounted coupon - sacrilegious for sure, at least in some circles.
It replaced an 8 year old non-sliding Hitachi 12" Miter saw that I used a lot and liked.

I have had no experience with the Ridgid sliding miter saw, but Ridgid's thickness planer and spindle sander are among the best-value tools in the market. In fact, its spindle sander has been rated as the best year after year by various woodworking magazines.

Don't forget to register your tool for life-time warranty (if applicable in your country). The gear/chain (?) in my thickness planer broke after 6 or 7 years of use, and it got fixed for free (4 days turnaround in my case). I think they also replace tool batteries if they die. Batteries can cost an arm and a leg.

The 4251 SCMS only comes with a 5yr warranty probably because the company who actually made the 4251 is exactly the same as the new Delta SCMS - at least that is what I was told
