Ripping with my TS75 in a CMS insert

I was ripping 3/4 inch, eight foot sections of oak with my TS75 using the 52 tooth blade. Most of the time it cut through like butter. A couple of times, it seemed like the saw was bogging down(possibly knots) and one time it even stalled and I quickly turned off the CMS and disengaged it. I raised the saw blade higher and it then cut. Normally, I keep blade approximately 1/8 of an inch above the surface of the material I am cutting. To get it to cut this time I had blade approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch above surface. Crosscuts were never a problem.

My question is twofold: a.) has any one else experienced this? If so, what was causing the problem?
b.) was I using the wrong blade? I have a panther blade but honestly was to lazy to switch blades.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

If you are really ripping with the 52 tooth blade please stop.

For ripping you need to get a ripping blade for your saw from Festool or another vendor.

Hi Ishah72414, I read Peter's response has having an ironic humour to it. I laughed. The humour was in the terseness of it. I notice that you describe yourself as Still Learning. Aren't we all. FoG is the place to come with any questions, and you get prompt, good humoured responses. I just hope you did not take the response the wrong way.

[member=52790]jjowen[/member] no offense was taken. I appreciate Peter’s candor. As stated, I have a panther blade, I just didn’t realize it made that much of a difference.  I do now. And if you don’t ask you don’t know. Thanks for the help.

I use a combo blade for ripping, even though I have apanther blade. I found I have to reduce my feed rate , slow it down and not for the material through the saw, let the saw/blade do the work.

But 52 tooth blade is more of a fine cut blade

[member=62969]lshah72414[/member] , I am glad you weren't offended.  My response was more concise than normal and that could easily be seen by those who have become accustomed to my posting style as being rude.  That was not my intention.  When I get concise it is usually because I want to yell "STOP RIGHT NOW because you can be doing damage."  Usually that is reserved to reported Plug-It cord issues where the problem can grow thru troubleshooting.

As a Moderator I can see the location of your ip address limited to city and state.  Warranty issues could come into play.  So that is why I was so short. I don't want to see you overwork a saw when a simple blade change would be so much better for you.

If I can be of assistance to you or any other member that would prefer that help be away from the public eye I can always be reached via the Personal Message system here.

PS.  After using a TS-55 for a decade now I am leaning towards adding a TS-75 to my collection in the near future.

The experts have already commented but I thought I could add something as a fellow 'apprentice'. :)

The 36T 'general' blade that came with my TS75 has worked pretty well for ripping 8/4 walnut.  Definitely listen to the saw on the right speed rate.  Leaves a clean edge and I've only had a couple rough spots where I was pushing too fast.

I had the TS55 before with the standard blade(56T?) and it was great for leaving a clean edge on plywood.  Ripping hardwood, not so much.

ow good a cuts are you getting with your TS 75 in the CMS?

Is it as good as you get using a guide rail?

what fence do you use? The one with the protractor head or the CS 50 fence?

Just curious

at jobsworth,
I am using a cms/vl table attached to a mft with a cms 75 insert. To cut I am using both the sliding table with the protractor head, but, mainly a ls 25 positioner. With the positioner my cuts are dead-on. The only complaint I have is there is friction sliding the wood across the mft. With the track saw( I use mainly to break down my sheet goods), my cuts are getting very good, but take more time to accomplish, due to setup time. Please take what I say with a grain of salt as I am still in a learning curve. Thank you for asking.

@Ishah72414  you’re off to a good start and you have good instincts so you’ll learn fast. As you observed, when the blade is too fine for the work raising it works better. When the gullets are full of swarf there is more resistance, more heat, and more likelihood of burning. Raising the blade reduces the number of teeth in the kerf so it’s a bit better but changing to a blade with a more appropriate tooth pattern is best.

You probably also noticed that the blade was much better at cross cuts than rips due to the very different nature of the swarf produced.
