I recently bought a CMS table and the top which takes my TS55REBQ. Having put everything together, I find my extended riving knife is about 1 mm off the centre of the saw blade. In addition it's not tight and rigid. To obviate this I took the cover off the side of the saw, then tightened down the 2 torx head bolts. This firmed up the blade somewhat, but it was still offset. I then opened the cover again and tried putting small washers under the bolts, (I don't know if it's relevant, but I had to make the washer hole larger to slip over the end of the bolts), which had the effect of making the plate stiff. So much so, that the spring which pulls the riving knife down was unable to work. I then slackened the bolts off a bit until the spring was able to do its job, only to once again lose rigidity of the knife. Bit of a catch 22! Does anyone out there in FOGland have some advice for me?

Its not supposed to be tight and rigid. It is designed to move up and down freely (when not in CMS), hence lateral slop. This does not affect functionality as long as the knife can completely trail behind the blade. Its there to prevent the kerf closing on itself, not to hold wood laterally.
Possibly it's not supposed to be rigit, but it dosn't seem to improve safety when it falls enough to the side so the wood, when coming out ouf the blade, catches on it so you have to manually push the guard over for the riveting knive to enter the kerf and you can continue the cut - while the blade being busy leaving a circular mark or burning the wood in the meanwhile.Svar said:

Sorry I’ve been slow in getting back.
After I wrote my query I went back to my saw to see if I’d missed something.
And, in fact, I did – [I think]!
I once again, detached the riving knife extension which is used when the saw is in “CMS” mode.
I then pushed the small “standard” part of the knife slowly up and down.
I noticed there is a plastic protrusion with a small hole in it, underneath the hole into which the cms knife extension is screwed.
I then made sure, when re-attaching the extension, that the end of the bolt went into this hole.
It had the effect of making the full cms knife, [ie: both the standard part and the extension], quite rigid.
I then assembled the saw to the cms table and put it in it's cutting position. The result was that, whereas originally the knife
was about 1 mm offset from the centre of the blade, it’s now about a quarter of a millimeter.
So, quite an improvement. I’m not sure I can get it better than that.
Ripping timber is now much easier.
The tiny offset just seems to ensure the wood is held fairly tightly against the fence.
I don’t know if that was a Festool design intention. [?] I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.

i have same issue on ts75 riving knive is TO loose! it fits but the noise would be nice to ve with out I actually found a lot of shiit I thought they could havemade 10 time smarte r instead of just listening to a designer. but there's nothing like these saws like it on the market so know I I have 2 of thise table [eek]

It's from site to site its just such small things like the terrible noise the ts75 makes sometimes but when not it so soundless why not find solution so it does it all the time ?

I routinely remove the riving knife extension when doing rebate work and can almost remove or refit it with my eyes shut. The trick is to understand how the "kink" in the extension meets up with the riving knife. My riving knife extension originally did not line up straight but I lived with it for a long time. Then in the thread linked below I sorted it out very easily.
