First off, before anyone comments on how sanders should be used with dust extraction, I would just like to say that I work mainly on job sites and cannot always take the time to hook up to the extractor for 1 minutes worth of sanding. I would also like to point out the amazing convenience of this tool and how it is my go to sander for touch ups on trim and smaller tasks where joints need a little cleaning, and to have to drag around the extractor would make the RO 90 a lot less convenient.

OK.  So the problem that I was experiencing was that I could not control the sander, even with two hands while sanding, the same way I always do, on random orbital mode, even with the power setting down to 3 and 4.  I could not apply any pressure or it would wander all over the place, drastically changing direction and traveling very fast with an extreme amount of power.  Just for comparison, I can normally use this with one hand no problem and also can adjust the power level (leaving it on 6) by changing the amount of pressure I am applying.

So the reason that I am posting this is because I resolved the issue and assume that someone else out there would experience this at some point.

It was a very simple solution. I took off the pad and found there was good amount of compacted dust in the spinning mechanism, and I am assuming that every time that the orbit got to that point it had nowhere to go and would jam up causing the orbital action to go crazy.  So, I took a small piece of soft wood and unclogged it then used some amazing Paslode cleaner to clean out any remaining dust and grim and afterwards it felt like it was brand new.

If you use your extractor every time, this will probably never happen, but if you're like me and use your 90 every 30 minutes all over the job then you might run into this eventually.

Just a thought, I've never actually done this but will certainly try, using the paper to cover over the holes on the pad when not using the extractor.  Not sure how the pad would like it, and I know the paper isn't going to last as long, but I assume it would keep the interior from clogging.

Any thoughts?

If its any consolation this happens to me all the time and I have the ct hooked up almost all the time...:)

Yeah, the lil' sucker works really well but the chamber does need periodic clean out regardless of dust collection.

Was grinding down paint on old siding and had it hooked up to a CT22 with a lot of hose, fortunately the need to change from RO to delta and back was frequent enough to observe the chamber buildup, cleaned it out with every change over.
