Rockler magnifying light works

I have tried so many different lights, the type that attach to a tool.

The magnets never worked well enough  to hold, there was not enough lite in the correct place or the light was not evenly displaced. I could just never adjust the light perfectly or they would fall out of place when using the tool.

This magnifying light in the link below  light from Rockler I just received a few hours ago. I tested it on m,y scroll saw, band saw and disc sander and it is the best light I have ever used.

It does not move,  the Magnet is strong, but just in case a screw type bracket is included.

The magnifier works great and the led lighting is spread out beautifully. Battery powered, but again just in case a wall cord is included.

Once adjusted it stays in place. It moves in almost any position you could need. I will see if it stays this way over time.

The price is steep about 65.00. Most of these type light cost 15.00 to 25.00, but this one does have both magnification and light. If this could be sold for 30.00 it would be a huge item.

It is so simple to move from tool to tool I just do not think I need a second one. You can also add a spot light in lieu of the magnifier light for a 9.99 option.

I will post in a month to see if it stays this good over time.

After using the light 8 hours last night I have determined the light may not be as brite as I would like. It puts out  about a the same light s a 40 watt bulb and the batteries start dimming at about 4 hours. The light is a very white light though.

I have this light too. I like it alot. I also wish that it was a bit brighter, but it suffices. And besides, you are looking at the light through the magnifying glass, so its that much brighter 

I primarily got the light for my scrollsaw, but have found so many other uses for it. And as it turns out, my Delta scrollsaw arm is not metal. So, I have to be creative to position the light for optimal viewing pleasure.

Another thing, I have noticed that the light is brighter when using the batteries instead of the power cord.

I have a 20% off coupon I am going to get another on Friday. I now want one for the scroll saw, Disc sander and small band saw. Its easy to move but what the heck they are nice.

I'll have to compare the cord to the batteries, I never really noticed. I have been using the batteries and only tested the cord. A great feature of the light is that you do not need an outlet and have a cord hanging there.

Is Rockler's in financial trouble?  They closed their Parma (west side of Cleveland, OH) store earlier this year.  My last visit there was only a few months ago.  Today I planned on going again to pick up some cabinet lighting, shelf supports and finishing supplies.  It's good that I called ahead -- it's about a 60 mile round trip for me.  Although I dialed the Parma store local number, the lady who answered said she was in Minnesota and that store was closed.  No explanation for the closing was given.  I ordered a couple of the items I definitely needed, but will take the rest of my business to Woodcraft or Hartville Tool.  Rockler's missed a sale of some exotic hardwood today, too.  I'm not going to buy that sight unseen.

Not to my knowledge. I go to Rockler alot in here Pittsburgh, PA. It's my favorite store!!

We had a closing here in Pittsburgh too. But it was WoodCraft. They abruptly closed with no explanantion.

I was just at my Rockler store in Denver twice this week to buy a CT Midi and again to exchange it for a CT22.  Their inventory looked fine.

I don't know about all the stores, but they do franchise their outlets so each of those stores stands alone as far its financial viability.  Being a former Clevelander and still having family in Cleveland, I know that the local economy is not as healthy as it once was.

Besides, Parma does not get the amount of attention it did 40-45 years when Ghoulardi was in his prime!

I actually made one for this magnetic light.

Took a 3x3 inch piece of 3/4 piece of scrap BB plywood.  Used contact cement to attach a piece of metal plate that I picked up at the hardware store.  When it dried, I sanded the four edges to make it a clean finish.  Make sure you also round over the metal edges with a file or sander as they will be sharp.  Don't ask how I know.  I drilled the bottom for a dowel that I turned to 20mm and now just attach the light to the plate and I can drop it in any hole on the MFT table or a workbench I made that also has 20mm holes.

Works great.  The light is excellent for close up work with magnifier head or the light head.

I have two of these one with the spot only and the other with both spot and magnifier.  They work great but as mentioned eat batteries; rechargeables help but still a big nuisance.  I have the t track mount for one and use it on an Incra T track (actually their 25" router fence).  Very convenient and both work well with AC when feasible.

I made the initial post on these almost  two years ago. Sorry to say at about 13-14 months I stopped using them because the flexible arm would not keep the light stationary. I still have one on my Scroll saw with the magnifier, but I have to tie it down so it stays where I want it.

So it is not as perfect as I initially thought and there is plenty of room for improvement, especially in beefing up the flex arm. They have it close, but not quite perfect yet.
