Screw fix sells the ones I use but screwfix is a little expensive!   I think I payed like some where in the reason of £25 a little more of course cus i think I get 60 in a box

If you was to buy 50 from screw fix would cost you £70  rip OFF!

Did u  use the AWSOME Soudal Construction PU which is the best glue every LOVE IT!   Or did you just use ordinary crap milky white PU which requires pressure to pond wood together???  [tongue]

another roof almost done

Love to see a hand cut roof Dean.  You rarely see that up here any more, starting to be something of a lost art.  All the newly trained joiners can do now is nail down trusses.  What percentage of roofs would you say are hand cut down your way ?

Do you use a track saw or free hand with a rip snort ?

Well Dean aint far from me so close that he's helping me out on a job!  well... he needs to come and bloody help me with this  218square meter of oak flooring ASAP!

Any way I dont do that many roofs but I would say for me its 90% hand cut roofs.

Alot of roof are trusses around here but for me i have put 4 truss roofs on ever and 2 were garages, I dont see the point of them really. With trusses i find the walls dont line up etc on loft trusses as they are not very accurate. Roofins not a lost art really, it is and easy thing to do. Well i said easy, but that 74 degree into 38 degree mansard valley was a head scratcher.

Nice work, Dean!  I too love cutting all the roof parts instead of just craning up a truss and nailing it.  The math involved in making the stuff yourself is good for the brain cells.  The art is figuring it all on the ground, cutting it all on the ground, then installing it without any problems.  The same can be said for trim carpentry with oddball stuff.  Figuring it all out, cutting then installing instead of back and forth is the difference between a good carpenter and a great carpenter.  Most anyone can hit a nail where they're told to.  No challenge or reward there.

[thumbs up]

you mean cuts like this

valley jack is 45mm wide and the bevel cut is 230mm long. bugger to cut

Structurally and aesthetically cuts like that do take more time, but are much better.  I'd venture a guess that 97% of the roofs here are done completely with trusses.  Speed in building the house is of utmost importance for high profits.
