I own a 150/5 and like it a lot.

I borrowed a 150 Rotex EQ (the new one) over the weekend and loved it, especially the ablity to go full rotary and aggressive.

Do these two sanders complement each other, or should I sell the 150/5 and only have the rotex?

I want both, but does that make sense and could the rotex do everything and save me a little money in the process?

The stroke of the RO150 in RO mode is 5mm, the same as the stroke of the 150/5.  To me, the two would be the same sander, except for the way it feels in your hand.  Perhaps you should buy the RO150, see how you like it for a while, and then sell the 150/5 if you feel you no longer need it.  The 150/3 has a smaller 3mm stroke and is considered a fine finish sander, so maybe that would be another sander you might want to consider in the future.

Thanks Dave,

That's kind of what I was thinking. I'm tempted to sell the 150/5 and then in the future pick up a 150/3 but it would soften the blow of the Rotex today.

While I've not used the RO150 I think I would find it difficult to use it in place of my ETS150/5.  If the RO150 handles like the RO125 I still think the ETS150/5 handles better and is better suited for extended sanding than the RO150....but as I said up front, this is all just speculation as I've not used the new Rotex

Bill,

I have the old style RO150. With that sander anyway, you're 100% right. The ETS150 sanders are much better for extended sanding.

sroxberg,

I think the RO is a great sander. However, if I were forced to only have one or the other, it would be the ETS instead of the RO. I also agree that the 150/3 would be a better compliment to the RO150.
