Rotex 150 cutting in/out

I just purchased a Rotex 150 from the recon store last month and I just received it back from service for this same issue (they replaced the socket) and it started doing it immediately again.  It just randomly turns off and then back on again - it turns off for about 2-30 seconds and nothing you do will make it restart, it just does it randomly.  It does it if it is plugged into my MIDI or directly to a power socket. It does it pretty regularly in rotex mode, but infrequently in orbit mode.

I have a video, but I have tried to post it twice and the posts don't seem to work - so I am posting now without the video.  I have sent the video to Festool service, but they won't see it until tomorrow (Monday)

Has anyone else had anything like this?  Anyone know how to fix this?  I am pretty open to suggestions

I have put the video on my google drive:https://drive.google.com/file/d/1voPjUGoISATJyo97tIhAcI117-r7NQYv/view?usp=sharing

I’ve had this issue on a couple of my sanders, it has always been the socket. When I change the socket I replace the cord. Have you tried another cord?

Take a look at the socket, if one of the pins looks black you have a bad cord and need another socket.

Tom

Thanks for the suggestion

Initially I had tried it with 2 separate cords as my MIDI cord is wrapped to the hose, but when I tried it directly to a plug I used a different cord.

When I received it back after the socket change, I only tried the MIDI cord wrapped around the hose, not a different cord.  I will try a different cord and retest plugged directly to an outlet as well.

Uggghhh....

Sent it in for service - got it back and it is the same....sort of

Now it runs a bit longer before cutting out but when it cuts out, now it takes 45min to 3 hours before it turns on again....

Guess it is going back AGAIN.....I wonder how many times they pay UPS to ship it back/forth without actually fixing it?

This time they replaced the speed control and electronics board - I hope they aren't just throwing parts at it.....

They had it for 3 full days though, so there is hope.

So far so good.  I used it last week to rotex a butcher block workbench/table and it ran for almost 2 hours straight.  It got pretty hot, but never cut out.

I had a tool do the same, and it was a loose connection. Since you’ve already replaced the socket, check the power cord for any damage.

This was all under warranty, they replaced the socket the first trip back and it didn't fix it.

Just reading through the thread. A guy in my area has a Rotex 150 that he's asking $200 but it needs the plug (and presumably the cord) replaced. Anyone know how much that repair will cost if it's out of warranty?

I suggest buying it. I have two Rotex 150s and once a year I swap out the the plug and throw away the cord because of normal wear and tear. It’s quite possibly the easiest repair work you’ll ever do and the part is dirt cheap.

Thanks Jeff, I'll reach out to him then!

following up on this as it has some time now

First trip they replaced the socket - did nothing
second trip they replaced a board in the handle

I have ran this thing a crap ton now and it works perfect - get a bit warm, but considering how much it has been run for 30-45 min at a time - I find that perfectly acceptable

It took a bit, but the money i save buying recon was and is still worth it
