I was curious if I could hook up a Fein Vacuum to a Rotex sander. I am very fond of my Fein vac and do not want to give it up, but was wondering if it would work on the 150 Rotex sander? Thanks for any help.

No problem.  Many of us have Fein vacs.  Best solution is a Festool hose which fits the tool perfectly and works just fine on the Fein. (no pun intended)

So the Festool hose will mount directly to my Fein, or do I need other accessories to do that?

My guess is that it will without adapters, it's a standard 2" hose end.  It hooks up to my shopvac as well.  Which was handy before getting the CT22.  Doesn't seem to hook up to the rigid one though  :-\

As already noted, you can attach a Festool hose, but if you don't want to incur the expense, just get one of the Fein rubber step adaptors, and you can plug the Fein hose into a Rotex-  I should say, at least the RO125, which is what I have.  I use the Fein hose on the TS55 and OF1400 as well.

Marco,

I have both the CT22 & Fein vacuums.  I also have both the green Festool antistatic hose & the grey hose.  The grey hose is more flexible than the green & less expensive.  And as noted by the other posters, either Festool hose fits the Fein vacuum perfectly.  With your RO 150 this combination will work well, however on smaller Festool sanders like the RS400 for example I have found the CT22 is works better as you can dial down the suction.

Hope this helps, jim

I noticed that I can buy a replacement hose end and Im thinking that might be the best way to go. Im pretty sure they are the same diameter hoses so it should be a good fit. I just hate the idea of having to switch between hoses for different tools.

Why switch? Get a "Y" adaptor and leave both hoses plugged into the Fein (assuming you get a Festool AS hose for the sander). Since the Fein is single speed this is an easy way to reduce the suction at the sander so it doesn't grab the work so tightly that it scratches.

Marco,

Yes, you can.  And this will work with any Festool that has a ROUND dust collection nipple designed for the 27 mm hose (The other sanders excepting Deltex 93 and perhaps the 1010 router which have oval-shaped DC outlets).  Try fitting a rubber O-ring into the middle groove of the dust collection outlet nipple of your sander, then pushing on the Fein hose end as you give it a twist.  I have been using a Fein Turbo II vacuum with my RO 125 and other Festools for over year this way.  The O-ring seals the gap, grips the hose end and allows the hose end to angularly swivel a bit which relieves some of the strain when working overhead  and enabling you to get into cramped workplaces.  Obviously the O-ring has to be the right size.  You can find them at Lowe's and HD.  As others have stated, beware of the sander hopping problems that can occur due to too much vacuum.

Update. I  purchased the fein step adapter for my rotex and it works great. All I had to do was trim one of the steps off.
