Hi,

Just got my 1400 router and 40 mm diam roundover bit with it, realized I can't use this bit with the dust hood in place that came with the router - the latter only does allow think about 32 mm wide bit. Is there another dust hood available, or is there a workaround?

Thank you

Anatoliy

Yes, there is a work-around;

Set the depth on the bit first, then fit the dust cover (open the door on the cover, and slide it over the two flats on the router shaft just above the collet - remember to close the door afterwards!).

Just remember not to release the height lock with the bit still spinning & the cover in place!  [scared]

With some of the larger bits you can install the bit, lower it to the cutting position, and then install the clear shroud.  Just remember not to allow the bit to come up without removing the shroud.  Many shrouds have been cut or broken that way.  [scared]

Thanks folks - I didn't realize before reading your answers that on the dust hood there is a rotating part that you can move sideways to allow through the shaft :)

Anatoliy

Ha ha, yeah, I learned about how to open and close the dust hood just last week reading this forum... d'oh!

Don't feel bad...I was the same!

Also, from what I've found, if you use the little cup thing in the base plate, the extraction with a roundover bit is very good. You just have to be a little careful in positioning the cup against the surface...otherwise it can't stop the chips from flying and the vac never has a chance to grab them.
