Router with Dovetail jig

Hi All,

Do members feel that OF1010 would be ok for using on the Leigh D4R Dovetail jig or is it not really beefy enough for the job.

My opinion ... it's the PERFECT router for D4R application.

Also remember that you need to be gentle as you follow the guides or the fingers - not overly aggressive!!

Yep, That's the exact same setup that I currently use.  I think the router size/power is a perfect match.  I use it for Cherry, Maple, and Oak drawer boxes and don't have any issues.  I used to use a Bosch 1617 router, but like the 1010 much better.

Be sure to look into the VRS D24 Router support ($119 US) as an essential accessory to interface with a MIDI dust collector.

I have the super jig 18 and use the 1400, which I bought mainly for the jig. Already owned the 1010, felt the 1400 better suited.

Thanks for the replies guys I have given the OF1010 a try and it is a lot better than the Bosch I was using before but was unhappy with.
The only problem I seem to have encountered so far is that the Brass guide bush adapter keeps vibrating  loose in the 704R adapter no matter how much I tighten the screw thread.Any suggestions anyone other than find someone with a stronger grip?

There are 2 ways that you can go with this.  I had the same problem as you are having, so I first bought "wavey" washers from one of the woodworking catalogs - Peachtree maybe, but not sure and what I've been using lately with total success is an "O" ring that just fits over the diameter of the threaded portion of the guide bushing.

Either will work great.  I gave my last "wavey" washer to a fellow woodworker the other days.  The "O" rings are much easier to come by.

You can also use Loctite 242 on the bushing threads.

Thanks for the replies.MrGinCT The O ring idea sound great I will get one or two tomorrow.Sparktrician the only problem I see with that idea is I need to interchange guide bushes depending on whether I am doing half blind dovetails or through but thanks anyway.

Please be aware that Loctite 242 allows for easy disassembly and reassembly, and will not restrict changes.  Its best quality is in preventing loosening from vibration.
