Garry,
The pigtails arrived yesterday and I installed one on my HL850 (Planex). Hopefully you've received my check or will shortly.
It took a little while to figure out how to disassemble it but once I had the cover off and figured out that I, too, had to carve out the little bump on the female end of the pigtail, the retrofit went smoothly. The HL850 has a thick rubber sleeve that covers and reinforces the cord as it exits the Planex (similar to a strain relief collar). The old cord can be pulled through the sleeve after it's disconnected from the tool trigger assembly (fortunately Festool doesn't mold the sleeve onto the cord set itself which makes future cord replacement a snap).
To keep the pig tail as short as possible, I pulled the pigtail end tight against the strain relief sleeve, then tighted the cord anchor inside the Planex. Including the strain relief sleeve the pigtail, the total amount of cord including the PlugIt female end is 6". I could probably have cut this length further by cutting the strain relief collar shorter. I may do this later.
Total time for installation: 25 minutes.
Thanks so much for coordinating the purchase! Everything went very smoothly. If you find yourself with an extra pigtail after everyone gets what they've ordered, let me know. I'd gladly take it off your hands.
