Evapo-Rust works well.  No scrubbing.

Take the rusty parts off the machine and put them in a plastic tub full of Evapo-Rust.  It will be rust free the next day.

I keep an old PC pad sander just for cleaning up such mess'.  I start with fairly fine grit paper and finish up with various grades of conditioning pads.  When I'm done I heat the surface with a heat gun and rub in pieces of of the wife's old candles and buff out with xtra fine conditioning pads.

Grinder with a wire wheel or cup will work too.

I don't think boeshield is a good choice for removing rust , protection yes.
Edit: I forgot boeshield also makes a rust remover.

If the rust is really bad I start with some 280/320 sandpaper, then move on to Scotchbrite and finish it off with a heavy coat of Boeshield. Let it cure for a good day and then buff.

Folks above gave plenty of thoughts on how to clean the rust on this, allow me to chip in with a suggestion to help prevent it recurring.

Camellia oil can be thinly applied to exposed metals like this, it will inhibit the rust formation, and better yet, it's woodwork safe, insofar as it won't then cause too many issues if it gets on your work.

Please note camellia oil for woodworking is a different product than camellia oil used in the kitchen, they each have separate additives to help them do their respective jobs.
