Came up with this technique using the LS130 + two interface pads to sand the end grain on a round table edge.  Abrasive is Brilliant 180, and 220.  I tried Rubin but found it to be too stiff to flex well and started to get a flat spot.  When doing this do not move the sander left / right while on the surface.  Draw the sander up/ down across the roundover, then pick it up and move it over to the next spot. It goes fast. As you work your way along the curve you can angle the sander to match the grain direction as the grain becomes more "slanted".  When you get to the edge grain, the same set up can be used   with sanding motion completely horizontal to do that also. But don't over shoot when doing the horizontal and get into the end grain.

Just remember to always and only move the sander in the direction of the end grain.

I have a soft interface for my Ets125. Would your technique work with this sander?

Love the smooth look you have achieved.

Hmmmm, give it a try.  Sometimes I find that end grain gets a smooth but "scrubbed" look with an ROS. Might depend somewhat on the kind wood?  I think it would be harder to avoid flat spots or little dished spots with the ROS.    What I like about this with the LS130 is that it gives really good control. You can see exactly what is happening with the pad. And as long as you pay attention you will always be sanding straight in line with the grain.  With an ROS and interface pad (or two) it might take too much force to get good curve conformation, and slow or stop the pad rotation?  Not sure  definitely something to test out.

Seth  great Idea I am going to be starting a dining room trestle table soon with some reclaimed timbers from a church demo, will keep this in mind.

Seth, have you made any custom pads for the LS130?  Between my last two jobs I've sanded about 500' of mitered door stock by hand.  My next big job will require about 250' so I'm looking for alternatives and the LS130 looks like an option.

If you are sanding hundreds of feet by hand then the LS130 should definitely be on your list.

Yes I have made two custom pads.

One for round overs and one for the flat bevel on raised panels.
