im now seeing your point still though a worn splinterguard will not perform as well as a new one therefore should be replaced therefore removing the need for a laser

I think you are all missing the point. The new model with laser WILL use the rail and will replace the dangerous finger eating blade so will prempt the need for flesh detection technology!!
