Say whaaaaaat?!

$400?  That sounds like a Yeti.  You can throw them off a bass boat at 70 mph, full of beer, and it will still be cold three days later when you go back to find it.  [eek]

Better than the yeti. Its the pelican elite. Got it for a beach trip last year and put ice into it at the start and it still had the same ice in it a week later. Im sure i could have got 10 days out of that ice if it was not for opening it up a lot. They say it keeps ice for 10days but im sure thats with it closed though.

Lol funny how people get annoyed by these promotional items. Just like their tools you don't have to pay what they are asking. Buy dewalt, Makita, Bosch or any other brand.

It's costing $15 more than a sys 4 so not exactly a bunch of cash. My last cooler cost me $400 so this one is chump change in comparison.

No need to brag about the cost. At $400 that is a specialized (fishing, hunting, etc) cooler that is not even comparable to a styrofoam-lined systainer. A better comparison would be a Coleman 9 qt. at $20 or a 48qt at $31.

It's not a matter of paying for promotional item, but the fact that it compromises the brand value. You look like an ass when someone finds out you paid $95 for a cooler that has no additional value, functionality or capacity than a $31 Coleman. The cost of the tools is more than justifiable in most cases with some exceptions (e.g. CMS which costs nearly twice as much as the 2200 and is a marginal router table at best). The shirts, pencils, notepads and other cheap promo items are fine.

There is an air about this forum that a lot of people here are tool collectors not users (I am not talking about you). You see it in the signatures and the mention of buying anything with Festool green on it.

You keep forgetting its a limited edition sys 4. Now if this limited edition sys 4 was for sale for $95 without the cooler insert then would you think the same thing. It's a novelty item for sure. Some will use it for a cooler for a year then put the sys4 into use as a standard sys4 or some will keep it and never use it or some will use the sys 4 for something completely none tool related. Its a tool geek item without a doubt but its still a usable sys4 in the end. A cool looking one at that.

Same color systainer you get if you buy 4 sys lite, that's a sys 2 though. . I am wondering if there is a part number since I need a sys 2 would like in this color combo.

Aside from the "cheapening" of the brand, which is debatable, I think part of the disappointment in something like this stems from the lack of new tools/products from Festool recently.  Whether it's a Festool portable band saw, or something minor like a Domino glue dispenser, I think some of us are eager for something more useful.

promark747, a Festool Reciprocating Saw and Portable Band Saw is something I could only dream of and it would complement a PDC as a set of construction/deconstruction tools very nicely. But I liken that to just a dream, I'm not even convinced the Vecturo, TSC55 or PDC will find their way to North America.

As for this new cooler, I could imagine some people using it simply because it integrates nicely into the Festool/Tanos storage system. Hopefully these foam inserts aren't just a promotional item but are something they will stock here in North America at Festool/Tanos dealers. It would be handy to have a cooler full of cold beers when going over to my brother's house to build a deck, fence, etc. I'm not saying I am going to buy it but I do see some practicality to it and I don't think it subverts or weakens the brand.

What I feel weakens the Festool brand is a lack of cordless tools available for their 18V battery system, no one likes having multiple battery platforms but people that use Festool in industries outside of carpentry most definitely need more than just a drill/jigsaw/impact/cordless circular saw/SDS drill. I can't pitch my Makita power tools until Festool can make more products that I need (like the two mentioned above).

I don't think that it will cheapen the brand.  The cooler systainers have been available thru Tanos I believe for years in other parts of the world.  To bring them over as a limited quantity item will keep interest up.  I bought one because I never use any of the coolers I have.  To be able to throw one like this on a Sysroll and take it along with my tools specific for a job will probably cause me to use one.

AGREED!!!

I have the luxury of having some time to decide what to replace my old DeWalt tools with. But I can't and won't wait forever. If Festool wants to really make inroads in the US market with cordless tools. they need to give us all or nearly all of the product line. I would probably start with the PDC, then build from there.

I wonder if they've ever talked to us 'generalists'  - the repair/maintenance/install kind of guys to see what we use? If not that, then they should at least look at the Milwaukee M18 line as the choice of items they could/should offer. Perhaps they don't need to offer everything, but they really oughta find out what's in our toolboxes now that we feel we can't be without. For a lot of folks, that'll determine if they buy into the system or not.

That's why I decided to go for one. If I don't like it as a cooler, no big loss.

Local deal on Metabo has 2x 5.2Ah 18V's, charger, hammer drill, impact driver & angle grinder. I can cash the hammer and impact skins and get a recipro and be nicely in front.

The bundle comes with a branded site box, tool bag and football jersey!

Sad thing is I'd be much happier with Festool cordless angle grinder and recipro [sad]

I'm fascinated by the different types of rationalizations that are mentioned on this site for the purpose of obtaining various things.  I'm not being judgmental because I know that we all do it.  Human nature at its finest...immensely interesting.

I think yer all reading entirely to much into this

ITS A COOLER.

NO ONE IS MAKING ANYONE BUY IT.

IF YA WANT ONE BUY ONE IF YA DONT THEN DONT...

I JUST BOUGHT A FESTOOL CLOCK AND THEIR SWISS ARMY KNIFE.

OVER PRICED YEA, BUT I WANTED ONE.

I am just sour grapes the Vecturo isn't here and using twisted logic to blame it on Festool.

Although there is nothing rational about the way Germany releases their products.

I think $95 is a galactic waste of money on this thing. Unless I were more of a fisherman or a boater?

These type of products concern me. All of their non-tool related items are overpriced and don't benefit anyone except a few nuts who will buy anything and everything with a green logo. If someone wants a cooler, tape measure, socket set, level, etc they can buy it without the unnecessary rebranding.

You are free to buy nothing or something else, not too difficult.

Sweet Jesus..now look what I done did here. Created a real stir..

On second thought this cooler would be great for keeping my Vecturo cold in between uses!

Ah, but it'd wouldn't be a cordless Vecturo [sad]
