Scale swap, can you change the Kapex UG wing scale to metric?

Hi all,

Recently switched to metric and am wondering if there's an easy reliable way to switch the scale on the Kapex UG wings to metric? I realize I could buy an aftermarket sticky tape but am wondering if there's an OEM way to do it?

Thank you.

I was just wondering the exact same thing.  I switched all my tape measures and Woodpecker tools to metric.  The Kapex is about the only major tool left on imperial.

You can offer to swap it with someone who has a metric one but wants imperial.

You can order a replacement scale from Festool, the item is listed in Ekat.

But if you order in the States you'll get an imperial scale. You will have to order it in a metric country to get a metric scale.

And Festool does not make this easy for you.

It is unfortunate for something like this where there are $630 wings which you can get in either Metric or Imperial within the US that Festool can not simply offer a dual scale as Sawstop does.  Having two separate items helps no one.

Dual Scale is the option a lot of folks absolutely do not want.  I want my tools in metric, but I will take an inch scale any day over a dual scale.

Now, tossing the parts to go either way in the box would be a good answer, not a "sticker" but straight up send it with the scales off, and the end user picks which part they attach. Could even do that globally for folks out there who want inch scales.

Since you can get the wings in either here, buying the metric scale shouldn't be an issue for this item (being able to procure that is).

Yes, dual scales suck.

What I don't understand is that Festool can't make these metric scales available for their tools, they're cheap items and it is not like they have to reserve halve a warehouse for them.

No matter how good a tool is, having the wrong scales on it can destroy your entire user experience.

I found a different thread on here that listed the four scale part numbers, I forgot that there were scales inside the wings on the extensions.

RH 479806 & 479211
LH 479749 & 479748

I haven't been able to figure out how to order them yet, as the part numbers in a search on google take me to UK websites.

Sharing this update in case it helps somebody.

You can look up the part numbers in EKAT, but then have to call Festool USA to actually order them [unless it is a part that a dealer chooses to stock because they are in such high demand].
