Was called back to the installation  tof frame out and finish transition to courtroom. I was hoping to scribe a piece of veneered ply around the port a potty entrance, and was wondering best practices for the job. I've scribed moulding and baseboard, and maybe a few feet long section of rock, but never a full 7 ft run like this. Was figuring just a compass and a test board for fit, and then once a get it right transcribe the cut out to the veneer piece I'll be using. Ill do it in three sections most likely, the two sides and then the top. The opening is 54 inches wide, so too long for a single 4x8 sheet. Any suggestions?

Cardboard and some hot glue to adhere the pieces together. Cut with a sharp utility knife and it's easy to correct your mistakes before committing to wood. We borrow 1/8" plywood from our granite template guys. Very easy to cut with jigsaw or knife. I have problems seeing pencil lines on the cardboard or luan plywood so I sometimes spray paint them with a quick drying primer or tape them with yellow masking tape to make the lines more visible. The Ras is your friend if you have one to work the material to the line with speed and control. Also if you turn your jigsaw upside down and cut from the underside of the sheet there isn't that much dust or the base to obscure your view of the line. Collin's coping foot works as well.

Just a thought...

Could you remove the door and scribe from the inside or the port-a-potty?  That would let you cut out the door from your piece and then attach it to the current door?  Then you might route around the door with a bearing bit leaving a nice consistent gap of maybe 1/4" once you pattern route around the frame and then the door.

Hard to see the full detail in the photo to even know if this might be possible.

Since I had a lot of long scraps of 1/4 ply, I ended up using that rather than the cardboard for the template. Started on the left side and used a combination of compass.scribing and tracing to get the approximate  form, which I then cut out from the underside using g the Carvex and Collins coping foot. After a few adjustments I laid out the template pieces on the 4x8 sheet of 1/2" veneer ply and screwed it down:

Then did the cut:

Fit pretty well:

Might experiment  with shaving it in a few places to see if I can get it even more flush, but I'm pretty happy for this being my first attempt at such a long scribe.

Tomorrow I'll do the left side and piece in a middle section along the top,  since opening  is larger than 48".

Thanks for all the advice.
