Set up Domino

I just received a used Domino.  While it looks to be in good condition, I am checking the adjustments.  I placed the  stop block at 20mm and checked the fence height pointer.  While it should be at 10mm, it is actually a little below the 10mm mark.

I am sure that as I play with the Domino I will have more questions, but for know I would like to know if there is  some way to adjust this?

There are 2 screws securing the metal scale. Just set the height like you normally would, (20mm is easy), loosen the screws and slide the scale up or down to align with 10 on the scale and you are going to be close enough for anything you need to do.

I think the idea here is to actually make a cut and check your work as opposed to just trying to measure the setup of the tool.

Corwin has it exactly right. If you can cut perfect mortises with the new machine, why worry about what it measures.

Good one John!  I used to spend a lot of time measuring how high my tablesaw blade was and trying to figure out why the groove it cut was a different depth from the height of the blade.  After watching a couple of woodworkers who knew what they were doing (unlike me) I started eyeballing the height, making a test cut in scrap and then adjusting up or down from there.  Sure is faster!!

If you read through much of FOG and if you watch Norm A's program and Tom Silva on "This Old House." you often notice that the experts don't measure - they use the workpiece itself as the gauge, just as old-time cabinet and furniture makers used a stick on which they had marked the length, width and height of various components of a project.  Much faster and usually much more accurate.  And something I am still trying to learn to apply more often!
