I noticed that the bars? only are laid horizontally, none vertical to let water pass under.
I do understand you may not see much rain.. [big grin] But look at the photo below, the cross pattern also lets heat escape under very easily, effectively creates a barrier of airflow. The bottom layer always goes vertical.
Here it’s also to let excessive heat from inside escape and cool down not creating ice on the roof, which is dangerous and potentially harms the roof tiles.
