Setup my new Lie Nielsen

Was that poor board 6 inches thick when you began planing?

Makes me think of the old Acme Toothpick Company cartoon where they cut an entire tree down to make one toothpick! ;-)

Mark Spagnolo (Woodwhisperer) did the same thing in his last video with his new planer. He pretty much eliminated a piece of walnut IIRC?
I have yet to really embrace hand tools. That is likely going to be more of a retirement exercise. I have a couple, even a long jointer style Stanley, but it just sits on the cleat-wall of the tiny metal shop in my backroom. That's where my wood lathe and ShopSmith are located too. It's a mess, but that's future-me's problem.

I saw that, was hilarous.  But man the power of that planer

The darn thing multiplied. I found this one a state away a fair bit under current retail. It's from 2006 but looks barely used.

I don't have a problem. Well, maybe I do.

Because everyone likes eye candy. LNs #4 1/2 Anniversary (#240/500), and a #3 with Rosewood handle and knob (these are #4 size to fit my larger hand) …

[member=4358]derekcohen[/member] Those are two planes I would love to own. Unfortunately they are made of unobtanium. The 4 1/2 anniversary just went for $2000 (maybe more, didn't follow the auction) on eBay. The #3 bronze also commands a near $1000 price tag.

Been trying to find that one for like a year or so. But settled for this [emoji846]
My friend picked it and pro-v2 up for me from Craigslist

Interesting Matt. I know that Covid and disrupted manufacturing had led to an increase in the prices in the used market (not by the manufacturers), but was unaware of the current asking prices. It does not affect me - I just use them.

Rumor is L-N is going to start up production of the 1, 2, 3 again 'soon.' No bronze versions, though. That #4 1/2 anniversary I believe retailed for $700 so it's no small wonder that it is going for $2k with 16 years time and the scarcity of it.

Their high angle frog worked a treat on eliminating tear out on my maple workbench top.
