Show off your workshop...again

Hey all

This is a topic I've wanted to start for a while. I know I had learnt a lot from looking at everyones shop and I know a few other guys learnt a bit too.

For all those that don't know, here is the original thread and what I want you to do is to show us pictures of your shop. The bad news is that I don't have the means to ship out a prize or a gift to anyone so unfortunately that incentive is gone however if you ever make it here to SA I'll buy you a beer. Please post pictures of your shop anyway.

Right so let me start. My shop is about 3.4 X 3 meters, 11.1 X 9.8 feet.

This is what you see when you walk in.

My equivalent of a sortainer  [big grin]

Next to that is the Ryobi table saw and a router table. Above the table saw you can see that top of a MFT which use outside when doing big jobs.

A little past that and you can see the horses hung up along with the mitre saw which I wish was a Kapex.

Next to the horses you can see all my nice Festool rails  [smile]

Packed away to save space is my old MFT, which I normally bring out when working.

Above that is my collection of Festools.

Beyond that is a workbench.

Below that is my Festool vac. I love it so much.

Yes I made my own hose garage.

Above that you can see the main workbench.

More tools and yes I enjoy listening to music while I work.

And here is what a small shop looks like when I'm busy with work... it's not fun with so little space but we make do.
I'm hoping that when the money comes through from that job I can buys some more Festool goodies  [big grin]

Anyway that's my shop. Please show off yours as well, everyone benefits from it.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for showing your workshop. It's great to see peoples shops and how they use their space, especially if they don't have a large shop. Yours looks very organised!

I have posted some pictures of my new space below. It's not big but I share the building with three other friends and have divided the unit into three private spaces and a larger main space with loading bay that we all share when working on larger projects. The main space is still under construction and has a kitchen and toilet to go in and closed spray/ dust room underneath a mezzanine. We moved into the unit in January this year and have completely remodelled it, putting in new walls electrics, water and mezzanines.

I hope others will post pictures too...always looking for good ideas.

It has not been easy trying to sort out where everything must. It has taken a long time and stolen many hours from my dad and I.

At Jonathan, I really like your workshop. One of the things I really wish I had is enough space to leave a MFT up permanately and possibly with a vac and arm like you have.

Do you do any work in there ?  I will post some pics of my modest space once i have cleaned the place up a bit, usually a staircase + a couple of other things going on at the same time.  I also need to get some help from Peter to post my pics  [embarassed]

Hi Woodguy,

Thanks for the message. The pictures were taken after a bit of a clean up following a bit of a messy project. It's a relatively small space so I have to keep on top of any mess and make sure everything has it's place. The projects I undertake are pretty varied and I'm still tinkering with some of the layout to make it work more efficiently.

Looking forward to seeing your pictures.

Hey Woodguy,

No I don't work in there at all. I just buy thousands of rands worth of tools, put the tools in a neat order and post pictures over the internet. I haven't used one, ever  [tongue] [big grin] (Sorry I couldn't resist the sarcasm)

As you can see by my last picture (Which is my most recent project) I was refinishing a table for a client. After that there was a bit of a mess on the floor but it's nothing that my CT22 can't handle. Man I hate working with big things like that because space is so limited, you know because of limited space I'm forced to constantly cut with 1 hand using the other to make sure the cables don't get caught... It's a mission. But enough complaining, I'm just happy I have enough space to work in.

I've been told a few times that generally smaller rooms are kept tidy because if just one thing is out of place it looks messy, oh and I took that after a bit of clean up But as you can see on the left of my second picture I still have quite a bit of sorting to do.

I can't wait to see your workshop woodguy after seeing your great video.

Well Castle first, ran out. Made me angry [wink] [big grin] so I got some Windhoek and after that yes. It was a tough day. You ever tried Castle Footstool? (It feels really odd calling you that. Any chance you would give up your name?)

I lived in Capetown for a short time at greenpiont just bellow signal hill and I did down a few castles

I am new to festool and currently I am 'remodelling' my garage, starting with some melamine cabinets, then getting to some workbenches and shop layout.

I keep seeing pictures of guide rails on walls.  It looks like the two examples I see in this thread I can almost make out tiny holes with hangers at the tops... is that whats going on, you guys just drilled a hole in em?  Also saw a video a way back of some festool training video, and they had a buncha guide rails hung on the wall without any apparent hanger.... is there some method of using a piece similar to one of the guide rail clamps to hang on the wall without drilling, maybe with a small ledge to rest on at the bottom?

The guide rails already come with a hole at either end.  Works great for hanging them up.  I even used them to screw the rail to a wall to cut out some of an old backsplash.

If you are in your garage, your door makes a great hanger.  Here's a horribly backlit video of how I hung my 1900 and 3000 on the garage door so I can easily get at them when the door is open or closed (well, assuming I'm still on the inside)  [tongue].  That article includes a link to an older article with just photos and text.
