Hi!

The motor of one of the shutters is acting up, and I was fortunate the pros who installed it had a time slot today to make an assessment. I removed the covers - for easy access to the shutter motor - and noticed they could definitely need a coat of fresh paint. Put them aside - and the pros came by. New motor it is. Again I got lucky, they have these in stock/ warehouse and they have a time slot tomorrow to install. Great!

When they were gone again, my eyes fell on the covers again and I said to myself, you might as well paint them now, as they are going to be re-installed tomorrow once the pros are finished.

Quick trip to our version of "Home Depot" to get some paint.

Then I set up shop in the backyard - like I love to do.

Hi,

Thanks for the positive feedback, I really appreciate it. :)

--

The motor of the shutter was replaced today, no pictures as that was a really quick job and there's not much to see anyway.

Besides that, the first material for the planned weekend job arrived.

Hi Raj,

Or 9,5 mm ;)

Those are special screws for installing structural-facings, they come with general technical approval and more importantly with self-sealing washers. But are thicker than regular wood screws "Spenglerschrauben" with self-sealing washers (only 4,5 mm).

I need these to replace the 6,5x60 currently used on my patios roof/ aluminum profiles.

The 3/8" head is no problem, it's a common standard. I have a corresponding nut setter. :)

Kind regards,
Oliver

Let's see.  [scared] [eek] [big grin] [wink] For now I plan on using solely my PDC - at least for that part. There will be a bit of SYS-PH, CTL-SYS, Hilti ... for the other part. :)

Kind regards,
Oliver

Hi!

Since the forecasts of the last several days were totally wrong, I decided to take on the patios roof today.

The first step was cleaning it. No pictures - sorry.

Second step was replacing the what I thought to be (after measuring one) 6,5x60 3/8" screws with 6,5x90 3/8" screws. Because some of the old ones were loose and that resulted in some of the roofing plates to move downwards.

After cleaning, I had a drink - using my Snap-On "Storm Grey" bottle wrench. Quite fitting as it was supposed to rain with heavy winds and some lightning and thunder - sometime today.

36235086vh.jpg

36235087vs.jpg

Then I got the first screw out with my 3/8" nut setter. Wanted to go for the second, the 3/8" nut setter doesn't fit it. I really had a  moment. Tried others, the nut setter wouldn't fit. Ok, no biggie. So I wanted to use the 3/8" square chuck on my PDC with a Snap-On impact socket. Couldn't find my 3/8" square chuck. ... Another  moment. So I got out a Hilti/Wera 1/4" hex to 3/8" square adapter and put the socket on.

36235114uu.jpg

Next thing I notice. I'm being watched.  [eek] [scared] [big grin] [wink] [wink]

Old screw vs. new screw.

36235117ly.jpg

While removing the aluminum profiles I was pretty happy to see, that it's only the very front portion of the beams that are actually withering. The double lipped seals on those aluminum profiles work great and keep water out.

36235120dx.jpg

36235121gf.jpg

Every time I got one of the profiles out I removed some stuck washers, then cleaned both sides thoroughly.

36235134es.jpg

36235135fz.jpg

36235136zx.jpg

After leaving them for a minute or so to dry, I applied some silicone spray to the seals.

36235145hq.jpg

Then re-installing them. You'll notice I changed back to the Centrotec chuck as I had trouble working in between the steps of the ladder with the keyless chuck. Additionally it was obviously much quicker changing between the 10mm socket w/ adapter for removing and 3/8" nut setter for installing.

36235152wx.jpg

36235153wk.jpg

Neatly seated.

36235154gc.jpg

9 beams, 9 screws = 81 screws replaced.

As [member=65767]threesixright[/member] wanted to see tools, tools, tools - I took the liberty to try and see if my Snap-On cordless ratchet could handle the screws. Not really surprised, but it had no problems.

36235164sa.jpg

36235165kb.jpg

That's it for today. While I was showering rain and some thunder set in - fantastic timing. :) Including cleaning, and with all the up and down the ladder. (I can only move directly on the beams) it was a 7 hours job.

Kind regards,
Oliver

Hi!

Today I took on the last faucet that is literally being eaten alive - before it will be completely replaced some time in future.

The culprit, and taking it apart with my Klein Tools Pump Pliers and some duct tape to protect it from the sharp jaws. (This works actually really well, about 3 layers will do the trick!)

And this is then also the promised continuation of the KleinTools Tradesman Pro (TM) Knee Pads (55629) review. I started here back in March.

So I've been using these ever since I got them and I'm still very happy because they really made each and every project I took on since, easier. I used them in the backyard, on the street/pavement while doing something on a family members car and in my home. They still cushion my knees really well, haven't worn out or "compressed" beyond the regenerating power of the foam and gel pad. Since no one wants to see my ugly man toes I edited those out, and as you know if you follow this thread, I have to wear compression stockings. That's why it looks a little funny with short trousers on ... But I'm literally fresh out of f*cks, forever as they say ... It is what/how it is.

What I still need to test more, is how they will hold up when I move around a lot over hard surfaces. For now it's mostly just kneeing, working, getting up. So no movement/ dragging i.e.

Then I put it all back together.

Good job Sir  ;D

Noticed the duct tape  [eek], you might wanna have a look at (im sure you know it, but just a heads-up) this knipex pliers. Awesome! Flat jaw, no teeth, no scratches. I use them on my espresso machine (which is kind of chromium tree) and no scratches  [cool].

Thanks!

I have those  [big grin] and also siphon/connector pliers  [big grin] and also protectors to place over the jaws.  [big grin] But today I had to give in to my inner MacGyver.  [eek] [scared] [big grin]

But it's a great heads up none the less for everyone reading this thread, not knowing they exist. :)

Oliver

Maybe one day, when I feel I truly finished my workshop, I will do one of those "workshop tour" type posts.

you should do that, hours of fun to watch  for us 😀  [thumbs up]

@PeterHalle
Looks like a MacGyver to me! Awesome  [cool] [tongue]

...And my last pollution of this thread.  MacGyver was introduced to the FOG from the moment he came home as a pup.  He has been a sidekick and went thru a weird project code named:  Fogtainer.  Most of his images here disappeared during the database issues years ago.  He was nicknamed the FogDog but ultimately a very dear friend scooped up that Member Name.  We are still on speaking terms [member=58907]FOGdog[/member] aren't we?

Just a couple of images:

[attachimg=1]

Immersing him into the culture within an hour of coming home and having a bath.

[attachimg=2]

Claiming the very first batch of sustainers to be offered to the public in the blue and green color scheme that is now used for special items.  Him, my trailer, my driveway.

Now back to your regular programming....

Peter

Oliver - amazing transformation on that sink.  Really cleaned up well.

Curious why you have to say 'advertisement' in your posts.  Lots of posts on FOG mention other brands.  Just wondering what's prompting it.

When you get through with your list of projects, I'm sure we can take a poll to keep you busy at many of our homes!
