Sketchup Models of MFT 1080 and/or Kapex?

I tried that. The "missing part" is actually one separate solid. I tried exporting this solid separately, but it remains unimportable. The only thing I can think of is that it consists of geometry that SketchUp cannot cope with.

Hey  guys I am working on a model of our work in progress shop.
We would love to  update our  chunky Kapex model with a more accurate Kapex.
If Michael  still  has  reason to share his work in progress I will  gladly complete the task of importing and  making an accurate  SU model.

Here is our planned shop layout.

Not to hijack this thread any further, but I started a 3D file for my shop and I can't figure out how to get it into Sketch-up. I can import it, but the 0,0 point and  orientation are all wrong. Then again, I have maybe an hour's experience in SU so I'm not even a real beginer.

[wink]

I have plenty of 2-D files and pictures that I can provide. Anybody wanna take a shot at it for me? I don't know what I can offer in trade, but I bet we can figure something out?

Hi Guys

I'm trying to do some planing for a mobile trailer and re layout of my own garage and come across this mini tutorial from Ron Paulk mobile shop Sktechup. Follow the tutorial and you could grab a few tools to help. you will have to verify the dimension on everything. I haven't used Sketchup in over a year and was a novice then im trying to re learn everything but its pain full but hope this helps.

Cheers

Just getting around to crafting a Kapex 120 EB Skecthup model.
Almost there.  Decided to make everything from  scratch.
Used  exploded diagrams and images from the forums to get the profiles and proportions.
Modeling  at present
Festool 497354 UG-KA-Set Kapex Portable Stand with Left and Right Extensions nearly complete still have  connecting v bracket to make.
Festool 494369 Kapex Miter Saw Crown Stop With Base Extension
still to model Festool 491594 Quick Clamp For MFT And Guide Rail System, 6 5/8" (168mm) for crown stop variant
Festool Kapex KS 120 Sliding Compound Miter Saw  still have armature and blade housing to  complete.

Stay tuned for the final model.. some images until then.

WOW! Nice detail!

This would be very helpful to me in planning my workshop layout. any idea when you think you'll have it finished?

Its the  details that make us all smile.  [big grin] I  still have to  drop by my local Festool shop to  see the rear and motor side as I don't have an actual Kapex ( yet) to model directly from .. once I can understand the shapes I should have some more time over the  weekend to  make the final pieces.  So far fairly low poly despite the level of detail.

I will post the model here and to the SU 3D warehouse.

That Awesome, Im trying to figure out Sketchup so far i accomplish making a bird house and a lame one at that  [eek], you my friend a wizard in my eyes  [not worthy].

Keep up the good work!!!
Cheers

I was able to craft the model as accurately as possible without a live model ( soon we hope  )  and so…for the  moment there are some errors for sure.

If any one sends or post images I will update the models.

I had to guess on a fair amount.

The  extensions are very close and the  table height and extension height is 900mm
Every thing else is a a fudge as I was not able to verify most dimensions.

Its a sketch model in the true sense.

Hope these will be of use to some. Any input is welcome for errors or  revisions that should be made.

There will be a single file on the 3D warehouse which contains these component files
Festool Kapex  Miter Station KS120 EB
Festool UG Kapex Mobile Miter Station Cart /Wheeled Base
Festool UG Kapex Mobile Miter Station Extensions R/L
Festool Crown Stop

Thank you for all your work, and especially for sharing it! I wish I had your sketch-up skills!

I've just checked that model, and whilst it's far more 'finished' than I ever got, I'm afraid the scale is completely wrong. I appreciate that papap has done this model without an actual kapex for reference, and I'm not saying he hasn't done a good job getting the 'look' of it right, but the whole thing is oversize by between 10 and 20%, depending on which bit you measure.

I just wanted to warn people before anyone used it to plan anything firm.

papap - no offense meant. If you want, PM me with your e-mail address & I'll send you the model I did a few years ago (which is shown earlier in the thread) and you're welcome to use that to adjust your model for scale. I never did get any further than the base casting, and I doubt I ever will!

Awesome job finishing and posting!!

I am not to familiar with sketchup but I drew up Peter Parfitt new kapex stand and wanted to place this on top to figure out bolt hole locations and it didn't fir.

It's there a away to scale this down in sketchup?  If dien so would it be accurate?

jonny , no offense taken

...as jonny states
This model is currently a very convincing sketch.
which I  am happy to update

..as a user of Skecthup for many years this one of its charms- making very quick 3d representation of ideas that can be tested and evolve into  more accurate or even more convincing representations

To all this was a best guess ( as stated in my post )  it does "look right" but  the only dimension that is  accurate is the  fence height of 900mm  EVERYTHING  else is a guess.

I had no measurements to use ..just images.
If anyone wants to PM measurements I will gladly  update the model with more accurate representations.
for scaling the model.  The easiest way would be to scale the rectangle that forms from the centers of feet circles from underneath.

Skecthup tip
As for scale  use the scale tool (tools menu or CMD 9) with the shift and  option keys depressed  to scale (uniformly about center ) and type in the scale factor.
Viola all parts scaled.
Although in this case still inaccurate [embarassed]

I am glad this model is finally able to be of use. With a little assistance  I can make it usable for future shop layouts not just pretty pictures.
Although I wish it was that easy to make actually people more useful.

cheers

updated the model to a more accurate scale.
Still a WIP for use as a template for dimensional planning.

Uploaded a mobile configuration of the Kapex model to the Sketchup 3D Warehouse here
No real changes other than updating the generic saw blade to a Festool 500647
