I like the mobile workbench he made that stacks on top of the systainers and CT combo.

Can you suggest any improvements before I build one?
  • V-groove for pipes
  • Pocket tray for holding small parts such as screws

Maybe dog holes in the side verticals so you could clamp something upright? Especially given that you have a lot of clearance below you. As for a V-groove, make yourself something like this:

They are called V-blocks and that's a dog in the bottom (for 5/8" holes common in some welding tables). It would be trivial to make some for an MFT top out of wood.

Lastly, since the inside clearly has a Systainer footprint, maybe make one side have a door that latches. Inside, put a Sys-1 or Sys-2 with the tools inside. As shown, your tools would just bump around and dust would gather inside.

I like that, very handy, I shall be making one in the near future (y)

Maybe put a longer/oval shaped cut out in the top like the SYS-MFT so it's easier to pick up and carry one handed.

I would also make some cut outs in the skirt around the bottom maybe leaving just a couple of inches at the corners so there is less chance of it rocking if using it on the floor.

You could also fix a base for a palm router underneath the top, to make a simple router table for light work. I think there would be just enough height to get a smaller palm router inside, e.g. Makita RT701 etc?

If you don't want to build one yourself, you could always get the SYS3 MFT. But if you do, order now because Systainer store is moving warehouses and will only ship orders placed by today (Feb 18th), otherwise shipments will resume March 9th.

But if you do build your own, Paul is right - put some dog holes on the side. Very helpful.

I need a big workbench so my electrician has somewhere to put his stuff.

At the year end I got one of those xxl sys from Tim. I haven't figured out what to do with it yet but a work surface on one of those would be big enough for my smallest viable bench. Two xxls back to back could be perfect.

I have a SYS-MFT and a couple of other Systainers, but not enough to make a useful stack, and I don't see it as that useful w/o a base --- need to decide if I'll build one or buy an MW-1000 Mobile Workstation or work up some other design.
