Smart Phones

Here's another article to add fuel to the fire:

iphone vs. android part 70

Ken, you sure like to stir the pot, don't you??  I have to this is typical of modern "news" articles on technology (or almost anything else for that matter), it's all bunk.  It's full of misleading info, here are a couple of quotes "Apple has become the top seller of smartphones in the world..." and "Never mind the fact that, as of last quarter, Apple was already the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Never mind the fact that Apple raked in two-thirds of the profits...". The problem with this quotes the writer already wrote that Android has the larger market share so who cares if Apple makes more phones than any one it's competitors or if they make more profit (that just means they are overcharging for their phones right? [poke]).  My favorite is his evidence as to why the Iphone is the best, "No one has any idea what the "iPhone 5" will look like -- nobody who's talking, anyway. And it's already a legend." [blink]  I do concede to one of his points, "The iPhone is not only a sound choice, it's a cool one..."  Okay, you got us there, everyone's a sucker for being cool. [big grin]

I guess my point of all this is it seems like this writer got his info from teens at the local mall food court, wait a second, he did.....  I have no dog in this fight (read I don't own a smartphone) but this article silly to me.  Ken stop throwing fuel on the fire, especially when you know some people can't handle the heat. [tongue]

Sorry I upset you with this article. Stick with your crank up rotary phone.  I hear they're coming out with shoulder straps so you can go out in public with it.  [big grin]

If others don't know already, I have an iPhone.  I don't try to push anyone towards getting it (maybe just jokingly at times).  It's right for me and everyone's different, so I feel you should just get what's right for you or what you like.  No preaching here!

So Brice, they still make batteries for your phone? What is it, analog?  [tongue]

Ken, what is the signal strength like on the iPhone compared to other phones ?  I ask because I said to a mate that I fancied getting one & he said don't.  His wife has one & she struggles for signal compared to her friends with other phones.  Has anyone else found this with their iPhones ?

First, I have no scientific data to make any claims.  I used to have both a regular cell on Verizon and the iPhone on AT&T when they were the exclusive carrier.  Old G'zOne phone on Verizon, very reliable.  iPhone on AT&T, very unreliable signal and call drops were common.  New iPhone on Verizon is better, but there are very occasional call issues, mostly just signal strength voice clarity.  Rarely drop a call, but it does occur more than the old phone.  Frequently inside of buildings, my signal strength suffers where my old phone had no problem with the signal and internet on the iPhone can be very slow inside of buildings.

Ken, my home phone is a first generation rotary phone that my grandfather got when the US transitioned to 7 (10 with area code) digit phone numbers.  I'm guessing it's from the late 40's or early 50's.  It still works like a champ.  And no new batteries to be had for my cell.

So you're saying it's a piece of poop??  The plot thickens.  [poke] [tongue]  I you're only having, so am I.

Brice,

If you get rid of this you'll have more room for your MFT.  [tongue]

Also, funny you should mention that, because I too kept my grandparents phone from 1957.  As you can see, the handset cord had to be replaced and the green phone was the donor at the time.
