So, who bought a new Carvex and what are your thoughts?

I thought that there would be more posts on the new Carvex, expecially since it was such an anticipated tool.  Who all bought one?  What are your thoughts?  Which version?

I am on the fence -- I really like lots of things that the Carvex has to offer, but a few things are concerning to me -- mainly that the guide stop adapter apparently cannot be adjusted to the guide rail itself (which seems odd) and since there is no fence to aid parallel cuts, you have to rely on the guide rail for straight cuts in thick material.  Granted you could but the side of the machine up against the guide rail and maybe that is the workaround that seems odd.  I use my jigsaw for straight cuts all of the time and this seems limiting.

I have read every review that I could find, watched just about every video of the 420 and old 400 for accessories and really like what I have seen.

Would enjoy hearing about folks who have picked one up an started to put it through its paces.  Any limiting factors?  What works really well?

Thanks!

Scot

Hey Scot....you got 30 days to see for yourself.  If it doesn't meet your needs, return it.  [tongue]  [wink]

Only problem with that is...the "accessories" (the kit) are not under the 30 day full refund policy. So if he does not like the carvex, he will be stuck with a bunch of bases. Granted, one could sell it, but you won't get all of your money, and who wants to go through that?

I suggest just going to test one out at a dealer.

Just got notice mine is in route... JIGSAW CARVEX PS 420 EBQ
and CARVEX ACCESSORY KIT .... Once again Bob Marino takes care of things.... I have a new project I hope to use it on...

Hey guys I have been using the new carvex here in Ireland for the last 10 months there a bouts and can not fault it in anyway shape our form yes the guide for the fence is a little odd but it works great the multi base a little tricky to balance at first but like all new things it gets easer over time, the ruler for cutting circles I find it works better going anti clockwise, just take time with the saw before every body puts there twist onto it.. But I'm very happy with mine thumbs up from me  [thumbs up]

I picked up my D-handle Carvex 9/1. I'm very pleased with the tool. It is a big improvement over my Bosch. The blade insertion-ejection system is exceptional. The splinter guard works. I did a test cut in thin plywood with and without the splinter guard. Lots of tear out along the unprotected cut. No tear out along the protected cut. I did learn that you cannot eject a blade with the splinter guard in place. No big deal, but a learning. I also learned the variable speed trigger isn't apparently compatible with the automatic speed setting. The strobe light does freeze the blade. I'm not sure if this is how I want to use the tool. It is easy to change the strobe to a steady light or no light. The tool balances well in my hand. Good feel to it. Not too heavy, but not whippy. The base release system is easy to use. I bought the accessory kit so will play with the bases next. The dust removal is exceptional. A little dust goes out below the cut, but all the upper dust gets sucked away. I was disappointed the tool comes with only 2 blades. I'd expect a full assortment of blades would have been included.
