Solid oak worktop advice
you can say what you like about oak worktops but I am a big fan of them and I know that I will look after mine properly so I have fitted them in my new kitchen at home (2nd hand kitchen that was ripped out of a customers house and was still excellent condition) only had to buy worktops. I have fitted loads of wooden tops for customers and always just oil, oil, oil, oil and stress to the customer to keep oiling. I gave mine 4 coats of oil on both sides before installing. I will oil them once a week for the first few months until they have built up a proper seal then just every few months or so. They have been fitted for 7 days now still with just 4 coats of Danish oil and already there is a small watermark at the sink which I will sand out and re-oil. My question is, is there a product out there that gives it an instant reliable seal, that can handle small spills and cups without leaving a ring mark etc? I have been recommended unika solid wood worktop mousse and was going to pick some up tomorrow. Any suggestions? I know wooden tops are high maintenence but surely you should be able to place coffee cups or have small splashes from sink without it ruining the surface?
