Sortainers & the Sys Roll 100 - questions

Hi everyone! First of all, thanks for having me. After many years as a silent reader I finally registered myself. I am a Festool user sind 2018 and Festool has never let me down.

In the last years I have mostly invested into power tools but recently I began to invest also into the Systainer/Sortainer world. A couple questions:

1) I ordered a Sys Roll 100 which is scheduled for delivery end of this week. I do see that the first Systainer you put into the Sys Roll 100 gets not fixed, right? Still, does it hook into the bottom with the two notches at the bottom end to give some sort of stability and avoid movement?

2) When I use the Sortainer 12 (491986) as the first Systainer to go into the Sys Roll, will it free the bottom line of drawers so that I can open them? Plus, does the Sortainer 12 also hook into the baseplate of the Sys Roll 100? I am asking because the Sortainer 12 still has the older mechanism to lock.

3) I have three Sortainers (200119) that I want to populate into the Sys Roll. On top comes the Sys Power Hub (200231). Am I right in the assumption that I cannot place the the Sortainer 12 (491986) in between the 20019 and 200231? I do see 491986 connecting to the Power Hub, but I dont see how the last Sortainer (200119) would connect to the Sortainer 12 (491986), as it has the older locking system (like mentioned).

4) Will the 200119 be discontinued with the release of 577769 and 577770?

Thank you!

[welcome] to the FOG!

1. The bottom systainer does not hook or latch into the Sys-ROLL 100, it's held in place by gravity.  The feet on the Sys Roll and the lip around the edge keep it from sliding around.

2. The bottom line of drawers SHOULD be able to open.  I can dig one of my Rolls and one of my Sort-12s out and check just to be sure, but not until a little later tonight or tomorrow.  As far as latching to the bottom, see #1 above.

3. Correct, the classic-style systainers with the 4 tabs can only go underneath the T-Loc and Sys3 models, but not on top (at least, if you want them to latch together).

4. I wouldn't be surprised if the 200119 gets discontinued and the current stock sold through.  In fact, it may already have stopped production for all any of us know, given that there's the "new" Sys3 models out.

Can't wait to have you participate in more discussions!

Thanks for taking the time to answer, this helps me a lot!

Yes, I have seen a Youtube Video, in which a guy places on of the Sortainers at the bottom and he can open the drawers, so that should be fine.

Yes, you are most likely right about the 200119. It is on sale on Amazon for 80 € at the moment. Maybe I will order another two units before they are gone. For me they are plenty enough and I don't need the newer model.

Will post some pictures here once done.

Thanks!

One note to add, both the old and the new sortainers can be re-assembled.

E.g. it is possible to take three of SORT4/3 (200119), take them apart, and get a SORT5.5/6 plus some spare SORT1.x/2 etc.

Three of the SORT4/3 drawers are exactly 2.5U high too (one drawer module is 5/6*105 mm == 87.5mm).

The same is the case with the classics, you will find some threads on the forum for this on moth models.

If you have some semi-permanent use case this is useful especially with the classics - the connecting aspect takes 1/2U (52.5 mm) and it can add up when your whole unit is just 2U (210mm) in case of the SORT/12 for example.

Can save height and weight.

Also, if you plan a semi-permanent setup, do consider the older model of the cart instead which is compatible with the classic sortainers. It is way lighter than a SYS-ROLL and you can attach something as a handle to a set of the bottom drawer systainters if you will not be removing them ..

Here we go. I managed to build up my first Sys Roll. I decided to avoid the older Sortainers and bought two 200119 Sys4 Sort3 Sortainers. With the Sys Power Hub they make a great combo! Since I am planing to keep this as a permanent tool cart, I am also very happy with the hight which turned out to be lower than the handle of the Sys Roll. This was very important for me.

So I just placed the another order with two more 200119 and another Sys Roll. I think with two of these carts I will have enough room to store anything. And the good thing is that the 200119 is on sale at the moment with the newer model coming in the next days.

Does anyone know where I can find foam inserts comparable to these:

Thanks
