The point is that the Birch plywood did not come apart at the seams like I've had happen to MDF.  As far as the project goes, there are world wide organizations just for car audio  competition. Some for sound quality, some for sound preasure. Both exist to increase sales for the retailer. That system we built probably generated 200k of business durring 2 years of competition. Just so you all know, I do tell my customers "There's a time and a place to turn it up and that's not in a neighborhood at 3:00AM or at a stop light at 3:00 PM."

Solid wood will work too.

You might want to look on Google for Orion Speakers.  They have an open design and are not closed in the back.  Wood Artistry makes them and you can Google them too for ideas.
