Do you set the speed control all the way 20 ---next to the little drill symbol :-\??
This would be for drilling.

You guys already answered my question about the 1/2 Position switch. 1 for drilling, 2 for higher torque such as screwing or fastening.

Actually you want speed 1 for driving/torque and speed 2 for drilling.  Anytime you drill you should have it on the drill symbol.  You want to lower it when you want to drive screws so you don't snap the screwheads.  This is especially true for harder woods.

OK. I think I finally have this straight.

Set the torque indicator next to the little icon for a drill when drilling.

Set the sliding Speed Switch to 1 for screws and fasteners only.

Set the sliding Speed Switch to 2 for high speed drilling applications only.

I telephoned the technical support rep for Festool this morning and he advised that I could always remember the Speed Switch positions by watching the bit rotation. On position #2 it is a complete blur. Easy to remember. Now that it's bee explained. Duh!

Thanks again.

I think it is great that you are not embarrassed to ask questions like this!

You would also use "1" for drilling metal or with large bits.
