I did some spring cleaning yesterday - of my wallet.
My dealer had a Festool event with reps from Festool onsite doing demos etc. Of course I couldn't stay away and I also decided to take a small plunge and spend this year's Festool budget (or most of it anyway).
Ever since I got a house, I have said that I need a jigsaw, but there has always been some excuse to not get one and I always managed to miss out on the cheap, second hand, PS300:s, so I still didn't own one. I know of all the problems people are experiencing with the PS400, so it was a major concern of mine that the PS400 might not be worth the investment. But after trying both the PS300 and the 400, I decided that it's worth the risk for me. I just didn't feel that the 300 handled better in anyway and I couldn't see any differences in the cuts made. The Festool rep also assured me that if I would, for some reason not be satisfied, they would help me switch to a PS300 later...
I also wanted to look at a bigger router, but unfortunately, they didn't have any OF2200 in the showroom, so I was left with taking a look at the OF1400. After a while, I realized that it has some of the same things that sometimes annoys me on the OF1100, such as the one-hand-grip, which is great a lot of times, but sometimes just bugs the hell out of me. Good thing is, I now know that I wouldn't be happy with an OF1400 at least.
I also learned a few neat things that I didn't know. For example, if you see your work piece in the triangles on the domino fence, it's safe to hold the work piece with your hands as the router bit will never protrude into the triangles. That's never been in any of the manuals I've read at least! I also got a nice demo of the SURFIX stuff, which seemed a lot better in real life than I had previously thought. Of course the TS-55R was also shown and I must say that I was a bit impressed - the new features are really nifty. I might have to get one in the future.
I ended up walking away with a new PS400 set and an OF2200 set. The CMS inserts for both are on order. All in all, a very good day. I just have to go back and order the sliding table I need for the CMS now and I'll be all set for the summer.
