Using a woodpecker triangle - 18.0 inch with foot (removeable)

My square rocks a bit on the inner corner when the foot is attached, I’ve had much better results when I remove the foot.

Does anyone else have this problem?

If I insert 4 Qwas dogs or 4 Parf dogs into my MFT with two horizontal and two vertical, I can put any of my Woodpecker squares up against the dogs with absolutely no rocking. Woodpecker squares include MFT specific square, framing square, etc. I’ve never altered any of the squares.

All my Woodpecker squares measure out perfectly square to the extent of my ability to measure them.

When I use 2 horizontal dogs and a big Woodpecker square to true my TS55 drop down rail, my cuts are extremely square.

All this indicates the holes in my MFT are very accurate.

As to the rocking you are experiencing, I woud borrow another large trusted square and repeat your rest. Alternately, you could send your Woodpecker square back and have them verify it is accurate.

Hope this helps.

I'd removed the foot from the triangle so it sits flat. Put a piece of the stock you are wanting to cut onto the table against the fence and under the rail. Then square with the stock in place and the rail height set.  Otherwise if you square flat on the MFT you do not know if it has become out of square when raising the rail.

I'd do as [member=66875]simonh[/member] suggests. Then you know it's square where you want it to be. This only works of course if the square can contact the fence when raised.

I was gifted a [member=59331]TSO Products[/member] MTR-18 triangle for my birthday last year. Recently they added taller pins to the accessory package. These pins thread into the top of the triangle and allow the triangle to lay flat on the table against the fence and at the same time register against the guide rail at a raised position. I have tried using bench dogs, 1-2-3 gauge blocks, 1281 square, etc and I thought my setup was perfectly square until I used the TSO triangle. It still had an ever so slight amount of play. If you need an expensive item for your gift list I'd consider one, it's a nice tool with lots of uses.
