Not my design, it was conceived/drawn by one of the project managers. He even went so far as ordering the hardware for it. I think the solid Poplar is a bit over-kill, but it works.
It will actually be used for windowsills, where a Corian cap will be fitted into an existing drywall opening.
That is the point of the 1/2" off-set that is connected to the hinged portion.
