My experience with local Festool dealers has always been less than satisfactory.
I have learned to call ahead.... they (my closest local) never have anything in stock to speak of, demos only. Sure, they will order the stuff for me... but that's just not the same. They are in Vermont where I would have to pay sales tax, whereas if I order it myself online, I would not. However, if they actually had the stuff in stock I would pay it (almost) happily, if I could just drive over and get it. I cannot recall if the VT dealer would drop ship to my door, but they are close enough for it to not matter.
My nearest NH dealer, Rockler, is about an hour and a half drive away. About the same distance to my nearest Massachusetts Rockler. Either of these two Rockler stores are more than happy to order it for me, and will even drop ship to my door. It is funny though. I generally go into Rockler during weekdays and the stores are comparatively empty as compared to a Saturday or Sunday. As such there is always more than enough staff to assist me with a purchase. In fact, they follow me around the store like a lost puppy. Right up until I head over the the Festool section of the store. Then they are like cockroaches when you turn on a light... seriously.
My nearest Woodcraft, which is also about an hour and a half drive away, was not much better. To their credit or maybe better said, in their defence, I have not been in Woodcraft in about 2+ years so things may have gotten better. However on my last visit, they were just like Rockler as I described above.
What is unfortunate for all of these particular retailers, is that it is the fact that they carry Festool in their product line-up that got me to step foot in their store in the first place. Now I have little or no reason to go to them.
In the end, this is just business, and some will get mine and some won't. Period.
