Stocking Consumables

Its win-win, she opens it up and plays with the bubble wrap and the box and you get the goodies!

...Then the bubbles wrap if there is any left to pop.

I didn't realize that there was a "minimum order" issue in the past.  If I got that line I'd definitely go somewhere where my "minimum" order was valuable.

My experience matches that of Wayne N. and many others -- our local dealers in NE Ohio (Woodcraft, Hartville Tool and formerly Rockler) don't carry much consumables inventory although Hartville does carry a decent range of sanding supplies including pads.  I buy from local dealers if I am going to or near one of their stores for another purpose, but otherwise I call an online dealer -- Bob Marino, who always quickly gets to me whatever I order as well as providing good recommendations on products choices.  But I also try to plan ahead.  If I know I am likely to consume certain supplies, e.g. a sander pad because I have a lot of inside corners to sand and expect to abuse the edges of the pad, I buy one in advance and thus have a new pad on hand when replacement is needed.  If I was a contractor making my living using Festool products I would make this part of my business plan.  The additional cost is not that much and the time saved can be money earned.

Dave, I do that regularly. When I think I've got a $150 order that will get the free shipping, I order.

There are dealers here who offer promotions regarding shipping from time to time.  Watch for them.

I don't bother, $150 in green goodies is nothing. ;D

I offer free shipping all the time on Festool, Stabila, and Veto Pro Pac. If for some reason, my website adds a charge that was meant for other products, I remove the offensive charge before processing the order.

My experience with local Festool dealers has always been less than satisfactory.

I have learned to call ahead.... they (my closest local) never have anything in stock to speak of, demos only. Sure, they will order the stuff for me... but that's just not the same. They are in Vermont where I would have to pay sales tax, whereas if I order it myself online, I would not. However, if they actually had the stuff in stock I would pay it (almost) happily, if I could just drive over and get it. I cannot recall if the VT dealer would drop ship to my door, but they are close enough for it to not matter.

My nearest NH dealer, Rockler, is about an hour and a half drive away. About the same distance to my nearest Massachusetts Rockler. Either of these two Rockler stores are more than happy to order it for me, and will even drop ship to my door. It is funny though. I generally go into Rockler during weekdays and the stores are comparatively empty as compared to a Saturday or Sunday. As such there is always more than enough staff to assist me with a purchase. In fact, they follow me around the store like a lost puppy. Right up until I head over the the Festool section of the store. Then they are like cockroaches when you turn on a light... seriously.

My nearest Woodcraft, which is also about an hour and a half drive away, was not much better. To their credit or maybe better said, in their defence, I have not been in Woodcraft in about 2+ years so things may have gotten better. However on my last visit, they were just like Rockler as I described above.

What is unfortunate for all of these particular retailers, is that it is the fact that they carry Festool in their product line-up that got me to step foot in their store in the first place. Now I have little or no reason to go to them.

In the end, this is just business, and some will get mine and some won't. Period.

i have had a horrible experiance with a local store here in NJ, AW MEYER, i went into the store looking for a Kapex and some consumables along the way, i had spent nearly 2 hours in the store stacking up all the stuff i wanted, i helped my self to explore the Kapex as no one was there to help, i asked if there was anyone in the store who can help me get some FESTOOL stuff as their display consisted of a few drills and some dominos, more then half the tools were not even displayed and the display was tucked away in the rear corner of the store behind some garbage screws with a pound of dust on them, after finally making it to the counter and trying to pay for the items and get the kapex along with about $600 bucks of other goodies i was welcomed with "you have to wait your turn, be with you after this client"  which is ok, until two other clients took priority over me as freinds or return customers, who knows, bottom line i droped all my STUFF next to the counter and walked my beautiful stack of hundreds right back out of that PLACE.
As a great believer in giving my business to the people who actually care, i made a phone call to TOOLNUT 75mi away from me told them i need a kapex, crown stops, a ehl 65 planer, extra blade and while i was at it i got consumables and a set of stabila levels. My point is, TOOLNUT treats me right, They don't give me a discount on FESTOOL but they always take care of me on everything else, dropped over $2500 with them that day i went to pick up my Kapex.  AW MEYERS will never see my foot in their store again and even though TOOLNUT is 75mi away vs AW MEYERS 10, i rather take the drive and relax in the car then stand in line for the same amount of time.

Bob took good care of me, getting me the consumables
I needed fast.  Made me all warm and fuzzy.

Well, let me tell you about the Roanoke Va. Woodcraft store . we do Festool, we own Festool, and we know Festool.
If there is a Festool you want to see work, come on down we will show you how it works. If you tell me what you need in sandpaper, we will have it for you when you need it.Need a blade, i have it.We hope to expand the size of our store this year, when we do Festool will get 30% larger. If there is something you want let me know, i will put it on the shelf.
Now it was not all that way,but we have seen the light.
thanks, Allen
