Well it happend. Got my garage cleaned out while I was watching tv in my basement. I am down a of1400,ets 150/3, dts400, workshop cleaning set, 2 makita drill kits, cordless planer and skill saw, and a pile of non festool stuff. If anyone in Alberta hears of any of these tools being bought used for cheap please help me out and reply.

Perhaps post an ad on craigslist and kijiji mentioning the stolen tools and their serial numbers too?

Sorry for the loss of your tools Sparky, that really bites!!!

Are you in southern AB or North? I'm in Langdon just east of Calgary and knock on wood we don't have too much of a theft problem out here in our small hamlet (I hope).

Kijiji seems to be one of the predominant methods to market used tools here in Alberta. On Kijiji you are able to set up on the phone/iPad app an automatic notification as soon as the word "festool" is used in a new ad for sale on their site in a specific geographic region (or you can say all of Canada) so you may want to set up some notifications for certain keywords.

Oh how I hate thieves!!!!!!!!!!

They are breathing air a good man could be breathing in my book!!!!!!!

Will post serial numbers shortly. I live in red deer so central alberta. They got in as my wife and kids left the garage door open when they got home and at 8:00 and didn't remember tell 10:30. They would laugh at me before when I wouldn't even take a garbage can to the back yard when the door was open but know they realize how quickly you can loose everything. Hard way to learn a lesson though.

Dts 400 400020617
Of1400. 11002345
Ets 150/3. 14002496

Don't have numbers for the cleaning set.
The other tools don't have numbers for as never tracked non festools before but hopefully will recoup some if it also somehow. I have definitely been watching kijiji.

As for garage doors being left open (roll up door, not the man door) I recently bought a new opener from Chamberlain. It has a feature that you can program the garage door to automatically close if you forget to close it. You can set the automatic timer to close the door in as little as 1 minute all the way up to10 minutes time.

I also sprung for the MyQ internet hub control which allows you to open or close the door from your smartphone or tablet anywhere you have Internet access. It also can send you a push notification or email should the door be opened by others within different timeframes you set up.

The only way to my tools is through my dog ...

Then movement sensors and alarm in the workshop.

It may sound harsh, but cutting off a hand on first offence would seriously reduce theft !!!

I'm not really that callus, but here in Oz often the sort of people that steal look upon a stint in jail as a well fed holiday ... What can we do?

I'd be curious to know what would happen in the U.S. if you shot someone that was making off with your tools? (I personally hate guns, but I think I hate criminals more)

I agree [member=13058]Kev[/member]

I used to have a German Shepard that would let anybody wander into and through the factory but if they picked anything up she would move to the door and they couldn't leave until they put whatever they had picked up back.

I think that (big) dogs are the best alarms, especially if there is more than one. I have found that female dogs are more protective of their territory after they have had a litter.

Bro, that just sucks !! i had a van cleaned out in home depot parking lot, compressor, mitre saw & anything else that was in a case. it absolutely broke my heart . it turns out there was a lot of theft going on at that particular location they soon realised it was an inside job & somebody quietly got fired....

At one local HD, there's a gang (or more) that hang out in the parking lot watching for vans pulling in with ladder racks.  The driver gets out and goes into the store, followed by someone talking on a cell phone.  The talker follows the contractor around the store innocuously while his buddies are cleaning out the van.  When the contractor heads toward the door, the talker warns his buddies who finish the looting and get out of the parking lot before the contractor gets to his van.
