Heavy Duty Surfix was applied a few weeks ago on an oak floor. The client loves how it brings out the details in the grain but is asking what can be done to get a gloss finish. Building requires low VOC. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the FOG...

I think you'd have to clear coat it with something...?

When you apply Surfix, it cures at a gloss sheen level, then as you burnish it into the wood, it transforms into a matte level. The same would happen if you applied another layer of Surfix, it would again cure with a gloss, but after some foot traffic, it would start to become a more matte looking finish because basically you're burnishing it with feet & shoes rather than white Festool pads.  [eek]

Coincidentally, I tried Waterlox high gloss over both Surfix and Odie's Oil just to try it out.  It seems to work fine.  I applied one coat of One Step, then Heavy Duty on one side and two coats of Odies on the other and let the piece sit for about a week and a half.  Then one coat of Waterlox as a top coat.

The Surfix is on the left and Odie's on the right.  Waterlox is a mix of tung and linseed oil so I'm not surprised it worked.
