As I mentioned in my 'first look' review back in September, I wanted to do a follow-up on these once I had time. It's taken a few months rather than the few days [eek] but it's now done!

This is my first ever video review, so please excuse the somewhat sloppy editing, bad direction, varying sound levels, etc.!

Any questions, comments etc. are of course welcome!

Oh, one more thing, erm, I tend to, erm, use 'erm' a lot, erm, I don't know why, erm, it's just the way I, erm, speak. Erm, sorry about that. [embarassed]

Fantastic! Thanks for that review - I am thinking of getting a set in January (once the price is released here in Australia) and your video was very clear and straightforward, and will certainly be one of my "reference" videos if I go ahead with it.

Cheers!

Hi Jonny,

Very professional for your first time - love the little "production notes" that were obviously just a little out of shot  [wink]

You covered everything very well in a concise way that left no detail out - that's a rare talent. Looking forward to more videos...

Very good video Jonny,
Like wise, I'm. interested to see what they will cost in Aus, I reckon $60 a draw!

Hi Jonathan

For a first video attempt I think that you have made an excellent job - when I look at my early efforts I cringe.

I will give you some advice, pretty much a copy of advice that I received from various people as I went along...

Sound: If you rely on the camera mic (with auto levels) then you need to try to avoid loud noises as it makes the mic level go too low for your voice. If you are going to make a lot of videos then get a wireless mic.

Camera Angles: In order to keep it visually interesting try moving the camera to different positions for each take and make each take much shorter.

Diction: Excellent.

Pace: Excellent.

Story/Explanation: Excellent.

Well done - I think that you should create a FOG thread for this (perhaps you have and I have not spotted it).

One other reason why they may not be suitable for vans is if a van has been outside all night and everything is below freezing in the back then going over a big bump could break all the plastic parts.

Cheers.

Peter

EDIT: When I wrote this I thought that I was replying to Jonathan's PM to me eek !

Hi Jonathan,

Nicely done review and very helpful.  One question, please.

Wondering if the bottom drawer of a 4 drawer Sortainer can be opened while sitting in a SYS-AZ or is the Sortainer drawer blocked from opening by the front of the SYS-AZ?  Do you happen to have a 4 drawer Sortainer to test it with?

I've just tried it - I don't have a 4 drawer sortainer any more (cannibalised them for the MegaSortainer!) but have a 12 drawer:

As you can see, you can't open the drawers on the lowest level, the sortainer sits too low in the tray.

My question in reply would be: Why would you want to put a drawer unit inside a drawer? Surely it would make more sense to just have it on the bottom shelf, and have the Sysport drawers above...

Thanks for checking for me.  I am planning to build a MFT cart and a sysport to go with it.  Still working out the details and this helps with planning.

Thanks for taking the time to do this JRB. Great video and the audio was dead on. Nice job!

You did a great job on your first review. Looking forward to more in the future.

Great review; much appreciated.

If I could do a video half as well I'd be happy!

Nice review!  Appreciated the details you covered and actually showing the install process as well!

Cheers for the video JRB !

As you know, I was a bit disappointed when I read the Festool literature regarding not being able to fit them in a vehicle, but after watching your review, I cant see any reasonable reason why they couldn't/shouldn't be fitted in my van.

I have been holding back from ordering these, waiting for your review,  http://www.ffx.co.uk/tools/product/Set%20Of%205%20Pull%20Out%20Drawers%200000000091455%20Sys%20Az%20Set , but now I think I will go ahead and order them and start planning my own Sysport.

Thanks again Jonathon!

Tim.

Great first video, Jonathan! The lighting, sound, angles, and editing are spot on. I look forward to the next one.

Keep up the great work.

As Peter mentioned there could be a problem with the durability of the plastic if installed in a van.  Imagine a cold winter day with a fully loaded Sys 4 and a very bumpy road....

The cold can really make plastic very brittle. The battery cover on my new wireless mic is held in place by a pair of plastic tabs. I have been doing some outdoor filming recently and I managed to break one of the plastic tabs - a combination of the brittle plastic and cold hands being used to force it back in place.

Now translate that to a systainer full of kit, as Brice mentions, on a bumpy road and it could be a great disappointment for the van owner.

JRB, Whats with the hair?

I give you 2 thumbs up as a leading actor is a documentary...

Well done

THANK YOU Jonathon for an excellent review!
You answered all my questions perfectly. :)
