Sys³ Circle

I like those ideas. I was thinking with Makita making job-site cordless brewers, slow cookers, coolers, warm-keepers, etc the least Tanos could do is make a good pie carrier.

Ahhh. . Took me a minute to realise the date :)

The best corporate one I ever saw was a few years back - BMW took out centre-spread magazine advertising and huge billboards announcing their new ‘MTT’ technology - this incorporated powerful electromagnets built into the front of their cars which allowed the car in front to magnetically pull the BMW along, with a corresponding 100% drop in fuel consumption.

Dealerships were BOMBARDED with enquiries  [big grin]

Not an April Fools day prank, but the best I ever saw!

It's reported Apple was inundated with hundreds of complaints of phones dying after microwaving them!

I wish I hadn't deleted my emails  [sad]  but I received an email from Orvis yesterday promoting an affordable bamboo fly rod. It was a very long email with detailed descriptions of growing bamboo and the cloning and addition of various aspects that were needed to grow your own bamboo fly rod at home. A female Phd/scientist also weighed in with the technical descriptions of the machinations that were necessary and that it took them over 3 years to develop this product. The bottom line was you planted a bamboo seed, watered it, waited for 3 months for it to grow and then attached the cork handle and reel holder, a home grown bamboo fly rod for only $99. They even offered the "kits" in 3 different fly rod lengths. Needless to say, it was very convincing and prompted me to start thinking about getting back into fly fishing.

This video was at the very end of the email, after they had sold you on the product & feasibility...an April 1st job well done. [big grin]

Growing bamboo fishing rods, if only.

Fifty years ago I got to look around the shop of Amanda in Eufaula, Alabama who made bamboo rods. Don’t know what kind of fishing they were for (I’ve only caught two fish and both were snagged) but I could appreciate the form and craftsmanship.

The natural taper of bamboo wasn’t good enough. The stalk was split into six sections and each was hand planed and then all were reassembled into one radically tapered, delicate yet tough and springy rod. About 8 to 10 feet long. Unfortunately I didn’t get to talk with the absent gentleman.

Lee Valley and lockpickinglawyer on youtube have the best april 1st content.  [big grin]

How LPL can do those videos without cracking up is beyond me and LV gets credit for making their gags actually functional.

Lie Nielsen manufactured a hand plane specifically for tapering bamboo for fly rods. I’d check back every couple of years, drool over it and quietly wait for the day that building a bamboo fly rod became my number one priority. Alas…it’s now been discontinued.  [sad]

Now that Festool has made a round systainer, will they next make a sys 40 for your golf clubs??
