SYSTAINER³ available from September

2021 is turning out to be the start of Systainer-gate. I think the systainers should work out fine? Festool felt that the racking was more important and I was never a huge fan of a shelf slider system to store the systainers.

They could have added the that racking feature without messing with the heights.

Yes the new rails are currently available for custom shop cabinets. Here is a 4 pack set from ToolNut

Thanks for that link! I see they're not shipping until Feb 1, but that's soon enough for me, since I don't yet have any Systainer3 but plan to order some of those too asap, especially for random non-Festools, replacing their annoying "FREE zippered bag".

Will new tools ordered come with the new Sys3?

Now?  There are still a number of tools that haven't switched over to the Sys3 (at least in the US). It's sort of case-by-case at the moment. Over here, Festool's website lists which Systainer the tool comes in.

Eventually? You would have to assume that's the plan, but parts of the vac-sys still come in the classic Systainer, so it's possible (if unlikely) that some tools never make it out of the T-Loc.

The new cordless Kapex has to wear high heels to synchronize with the Sys3.

That is default Kapex table height. With the camera so low it makes it look worse.

And also what [member=61254]mino[/member] said.

Technically, no - that's not a SYS1 .............................

That designation no longer exists in the current generation of systainers, which is called SYS3 - version "3" if you will.  M 112 is the size designation for the one pictured.  Meaning it's 112mm tall.  The last version - version "2" was called T-loc and the designations for that series was SYS1 , SYS2, SYS3 ect.......  But they were different heights from the current boxes.  SyS1 was 105mm tall..............................which is the exact height of the bed on the orig. Kapex [big grin]

So, it's no wonder that Festool had to kludge together a fix for their "installers saw" so that it would line up with systainers.

    Gen 3 M112 is 112mm tall.

T-Loc Sys-I is 112mm tall.    105mm does not include the systainers feet. 105mm is the amount it will add to a stack. if placed on top of another Systainer. Because the sys feet fit into the top of the sys below.

    Classic Sys-I is 110mm tall.

The original Kapex matched up to Classic 110mm height. The T-loc 112mm matched pretty close. And so should the Gen 3 112.  Feet were added to the "installer" Kapex to bring it up to the Sys heights.

Those heights and match ups are for the items on flat surfaces. As opposed to the saw being fit into the holes on an MFT. Or some other mount or arrangement.

105 + 7mm feet = 112
Nothing changed on the Kapex height.

This metaphore thing. Or tongue-in-cheek. However you prefer.

The SYS 1 designation has nothing to do with T-Loc. Formally, it is the historical name for a 1-module (105 mm sans feet) height systainer which maintained its use as the informal name for a "SYS 1 T-Loc". From the SYS3 series only the M112 fits that SYS 1 informal designation as it has the matching height and is for most intents and purposes interchangeable with any other SYS 1.

Per me, none of the SYS3 series, bar M112, are deserving of the "SYStem conTAINER" name. But to each his own. I may well adopt your notion and consider the SYS3 series as the KLUDGETAINERTM series. Sure would help the confusion.
