Fabbed this up for the Parade home. The base was fabbed by a local metal shop, my welders and band saws are back home.

Sweet Tom...Love the structure under the table that supports it. Just wondering if there are ping pong rules that stipulate the table thickness as that would/could affect the amount of rebound you get from the ball?

I have no clue about the rules.

Haven't played the game in decades either.

Very nice Tom. Is that white oak with a maple divider in the middle?

Ron

Yes. The next one will be different to more define what the table is.

From the 2019 Rulebook:

2 THE LAWS OF TABLE TENNIS
2.1 THE TABLE
2.1.1 The upper surface of the table, known as the playing surface, shall be
rectangular, 2.74m long and 1.525m wide, and shall lie in a horizontal plane
76cm above the floor.
2.1.2 The playing surface shall not include the vertical sides of the tabletop.
2.1.3 The playing surface may be of any material and shall yield a uniform bounce of
about 23cm when a standard ball is dropped on to it from a height of 30cm.
2.1.4 The playing surface shall be uniformly dark coloured and matt, but with a white
side line, 2cm wide, along each 2.74m edge and a white end line, 2cm wide,
along each 1.525m edge.

Wonder how many/which materials are suitable? And what is the range of “about”?

Ooooh, very nice.  I had a wooden ping pong table growing up that my Dad made, but it was out of plywood, and I also played quite a bit on the concrete tables and nets at school.

Is there a concern given the different shrinkage rates of oak and maple that the center stripe will come a tiny bit proud or below the surface at some point?

For myself if I read that I would strive to be within 5%, or 1.15 cm (.452 inches). They did
leave it pretty wide open. Even 10% (2.3 cm) would be reasonable I think. It's also subject
to the age and quality of the ball so I don't think they can nail it down to within a few mm.

Parade banquet was Wedensday night. We did not win best kitchen, here's a pic of it from the HBA website.
