Check out this video from Felder. Felder CNC I would imagine this machine is well into 6 figures but it sure makes short work out of building production cabinets.  I'm seriously looking at a Hammer C3 31 combo machine.  It would free up a lot of room in my shop as well as in my bank account!  [scared]  As much as I love my Festool, there are still certain things than can be done more easily on a stationary tool and if you have the budget, it would appear that a slider is the way to go for both accuracy and safety.  Are there any Hammer/Felder users out there and give me your thoughts.

My lord, that hinge boring and shelf hole boring is awe inspiring.

Dang thing is like some Transformer bot... cheesy codename:  Sawdust!

Hi Howard,

I have the C3 31 combo, ( i had to sell my brand new honda jazz to get........not a joke ). [tongue] I work from a 2 garage shop and it really was the only way to go with the limited space i have. If your a one man show its perfect for the job, but if you have a few guys its could slow things down because you can only use one machine at a time. It is a great machine but like most things there are better ones out there. If your looking for a combo machine maybe spending a bit of extra cash is a good idea and upgrade from the hammer to the felder combo. Everything on the felder run and fells just that much better then the hammer.

I have Hammer separates, K3 tablesaw, F3 spindle moulder, A3/31 Planer Thicknesser and separates suit me although the space issue obviously has a bearing.

As for the Felder/Hammer debate, I am very happy with Hammer equipment which is almost half the price of Felder but without the equivalent reduction in quality.

Since I bought my machinery Felder have bought out a 5 Series, which is less than the top range 7 Series, so that may be worthwhile.

A final word on combi's, the one downside is that when you have done a run of machining stock with the spindle moulder function and have removed the cutters and you then find you need to do another run due to a mistake, then it is very difficult to get exactly the original setting. With separate machines you have usually left them as last used.

I'll have to get a price on the Felder 500 series.  If it's only a couple of thousand more, It may it's worth it.  If it's like $5000 more, well, forget it.  I'll be happy with the Hammer, I'm sure.  It's so much better than any other conventional stationary equipment anyway.
