Talk about precision! But what do I do now?

I am building a cabinet and cut domino slots in the sides and center divider to take the shelves.  On the divider the slot went clean though; I was horrified that I had the depth too deep and was going through to the work table (my TS...); but then realized that the slots I cut into the right side were simply joining up to the ones I had already cut into the left side.
They are so perfect it is like one slot.  It is an expensive machine, but apparently worth it; I wouldn't have thought it was possible to get it that precisely if I hadn't done it.

Anyhow, I hadn't expected this to happen, and now I don't have enough depth for two dominoes.  The wood is 17mm and the dominos are 30mm.  I can either just stick one in the center and have 6mm sticking out on each side, or I can cut deeper slots in the shelves and have each domino in the center 8mm.  Neither is a great solution, but the first is easier.  Whatcha think?

Toller,

Been there myself, in my case I inserted the dominos into the shelves and cut them off short with a fein multimaster (left just under half the thickness of the divider), then everything went together easily.

first things first....................... dont get flustered, shut your gob (dont swear) or throw things

the foreman doesnt care if you swear (the client may/may not mind) BUT they can hear something aint right.....

so you DO NOT bring it to their attention

get your brain in gear and solve the problem (like it isnt a problem)..............

a good tradesman (because he's had practice) can hide an error or better still................make it look right and BE RIGHT

DO NOT "bodge it" or "do a number on it".................... call backs are expensive, embarrasing and do not get you repeat work

your problem is actually very simple the vertical divider is only 17mm and your domino is 30mm

the domino is wood, you can cut it shorter, or you can bore a deeper hole in the shelf so that there is more domino in the shelf than in the divider

the way you are using this domino is in shear, so reduce the effect of shear

use your mind

ps the swearing thing is NOT something i object to, im english so it comes naturally as breathing

it just a case of if you dont swear (and throw things) you have a vital few seconds more to think

But DD, I get some of my best ideas right after hurling expletives, non-Festool tools, and assorted bits of suddenly un-cherished wood in all directions.
