Does anyone remember similar conversations ( in the 1960s ) similar to this regarding products made in Japan?
How we derided Japanese motor bikes and then their cars.
i.e. Toyota recall history?  [big grin]

Which car manufacturer has not had recalls? We live in a litigious society and manufacturers cannot take chances.

In a perfect world I'd like to be buyjing Australian tools made in Australia, but that isn't going to happen any time soon. But as economy's are global when china is doing well Australia does very well and vise - versa, how long this is likely to last no one knows.

No and I was a young man shopping for a car in the 1960's and the difference is that Japan is a democratic society and in fact Edward Demming worked with the Engineering Council in Japan after WWW2 to help rebuild their manufacturing base.  The one thing that Edward Demming instilled into Japanese culture as far as manufacturing and business in general is that defects are naturally occurring not the result of bad employees.  The end result is that the heads of Japanese Corporations make a small multiplier of the average wage of the workers in Japan whereas in other Western Countries in the last few decades that multiplier has skyrocketed.  The bottom line is that China is a communist country where the communist party dictates what people earn and what goods are allowed into the country.  There is no comparison between Japan in the 1960 (or any other time) and communist China today and while my Lexus is one of the best cars on the road I don't expect to see a communist Chinese Lexus in my lifetime.

It is quite funny that the only Festool I was unhappy with and used the 30 day return WAS the PDC and that is not made in Germany! I even tried 3 different ones to find a good one and that did not happen.

Profit and growth rules everything these days .. all for an increase "wealth".

Funny how we fuss about things like this while the big picture eludes all but a few.

Well, one of the big pictures didn't elude me.  The last time we were in the Met we made sure to see the one of Washington crossing the Deleware.  Over 20 feet wide and over 12 feet tall.  Pretty big.

I just noticed my tcl3 charger is made in China. If this is the start of the outsoucing for more profits, I will stop buying festool products.

Do you have any Apple products?  They are pretty high end things and they are made in (gasp!)

China.

Apple's quality has dropped tremendously. The last quality product that they made was a G5. Since 2001 their products quality control has went downhill.

Agree to disagree. I buy all of my employees MacBook Pros or Airs (their choice) and in the last 2 years we have had only one issue. Compared to alternatives, I feel like we have had our money's worth and more. FWIW... I have been a "Mac guy" since the early 90's.

I am fully entrenched in their ecosystem at home and work.

You're not wrong ... I've had no end of crashes (such as Finder) since I download El Crappitan!! [mad] Jobs must be turning in his grave.

I certainly wouldn't buy a car made by Apple [eek] ... or a pacemaker ..

[member=13058]Kev[/member] I do not believe that the OS is 'manufactured' in China.

No .. it will be developed "globally", with components of the licence/IP held in the countries offering the best tax advantages.

Let's see how long it takes for Apple to start delivering advertising through the O/S.

Probably around the same time we see stickers on Festools...

I can't be part of this conversation any more. My tools say Germany on them, my PDC says Czech Republic, the charger says Germany, my phone says California and China on it...

My brain says get out of this thread before it's too late.

I have plenty more things to think and worry about before the weekend is complete. Halloween is upon us and I would rather spend my energy with my son and daughter than contribute to this thread. Lately I really hate being on the FOG.

"Good day sir". Bryan.

Hey, let's face it not everything German lives up to quality---look at Volkswagon and recent media stories about how they lied about emissions.......

Yes it's  funny, because I have one and really HAPPY!

[size=14pt]Two published photographs and at least one statement confirming members' actual TLC3s were made in GERMANY. Has this thread been a waste of time based on a misconception!?

We could start in on the recent change to the 1 child policy.
That would keep the xenophobes happy.

Misconception? Is that when FOG members claim that Wiha made the bits that Wera made for Festool?  [big grin]

Anyway, I have no reason to presume that the op is lying or confused.

The mystery continues.
