Hi,
I wanted to pass on a big thank you to Festool Germany for the great time me and my Dad had today at the Festool-Truck in Cologne - and of course for the very nice welcoming gift!
First things first: it was great getting a postcard about 3-4 weeks prior to the first show date, having time to consider which date and dealer to go to and then register. There where all in all 4 dates within reasonable driving distance, fantastic - because it translates to: 4 close by dealers care enough about Festool and their customers to take part in it.
So I registered for today, mainly because it fit our schedule best and as I can't convince my better half to go with me to such an event it was great going there with my Dad instead.
Now comes the first point where some improvements could be made: Adding an indicator as to what type of event it is going to be when you choose a date/dealer.
--only read if interested--
I registered early, took a quick look and forgot about it. Later I checked the dealer again and found out that they are basically more of a "wholesale" to professional painters than anything else. I called them to confirm we could still come - no problem there. Over time, I did check the dealer's site about 2 or three times - every time the event had kinda grown. First it was Festool-Roadshow, then it was "in house trade-fair" and then it was even their (the dealer's) mother company involved, including meetings of the registered customers, members of the cooperatives and so on. Additionally they had some fun-fair attractions for the families... This is great if you actually are a "member" but for someone like me/us who simply go there for Festool it's a bit much especially since everyone else exhibiting there thinks you are from the trade and they start advertising to you, which I tried to cut short not to steal their valuable time.
----
So if there could be a small phrase or even just a link to the program that day in future - that would be really wonderful and appreciated!
But now, Festool.
Welcoming gift: Mini Systainer in a really cool color, with a Victorinox "Breakfast-bun-knife" and breadboard and a 120 grit Granat sanding block.

I had two points on my list: I wanted to try Zobos and the DWC 18-2500/4500.
The Zobos I think impressed me the most. I have high quality Forstners that cut great and require only minimal aftercare - but the Zobos - one word: AMAZING. I'd never had expected them to make such clean cuts right down to the bottom (if you leave one
) - and then being able to go in right into the edge at virtually any angle - and just as clean - really impressed me deeply [eek] [eek] [eek]. So on the list they went.
I then went for the DWC 18-2500 which is the "wood" model, whereas the DWC 18-4500 is the "metal-profile" model. Used it in automatic and manual mode. The first one being a real time saver - imagine the DWC hanging from your belt and just putting it on the drywall, pressing down a little so the screw makes contact with the plasterboard and it magically
[eek] [eek] starts driving the screw. Amazing tool went also on the list.
The guy presenting those two machines was really fun and great to talk to, very professional even when the typical "Nay-Sayer" interrupted our conversation and claimed he is as fast by hand as with the DWC so he doesn't need it...
And of course, being able to use the machines myself was fun and educational - especially with the Zobos.
And I finally found a Systainer I'd fit in [eek] [eek] [scared] [scared] [big grin] [big grin]

Sadly one could only buy something there if you had an account with the dealer - which I obviously hadn't. Otherwise I would have bought the Zobos on the spot as I definitely wanted to spent some money there and not just go fishing for freebies.
From Festool we went on, over the whole trade fair and that again was very educational in terms of what companies exist and what products they offer. So my head is buzzing with hundreds of ideas on what to do during the next time I paint or hang wallpapers... Found stuff I had never seen before speaking of style and quality. Really a great experience.
Since I wanted to spend some Festool-$$$ I did a quick search for another dealer in Cologne who sells to private, found one and off we went.
Again sadly, they did not have the Zobos (which I now ordered from Amazon) - but they had the fairly new SYS-PH (Systainer Powerhub) and sanding paper. So I bought the Powerhub and 120 and 180 grit Granat sanding paper.

Very successful day, had tons of fun and did a small road trip with my Dad - can't get any better than that.
Kind regards,
Oliver
