The majority of DF500 users I know in person here never or don't use their cross stops. I normally use pencil lines when there're just some placement lines involved. This corner case I'm about to finish would require about 60 lines to mark; I used the cross stop and zero line was needed:

You're probably right. I don't use it as often as I could. I'm far more likely to use the Trim Stop, when it could be helpful. I'm not sure why, it's not like one is particularly easier to use than the other.

I tend not to use it because I prefer doing one side tight.  I could never figure out how to do the pin offsetting for mismatched pairs.

Am I mistaken that you're stuck with tight-tight (first), wide-wide (repeat) ?

edit: after reading the other thread, I see you do a double plunge.  That's a good idea.

Like you, for regular stuff, I use the tight setting all the way on one board, and a tight and the rest wide for the mating piece.

For the cross stop, I use the tight/narrow combo setting, as described in these instructions (reply #2):

I shall add that the factory cross stop cannot be used with the 4mm dominoes. I made the pins on the cross stop smaller to 4mm.
