Hi all.

I have managed to make a purchase of a secondhand EHL65 E one handed planer some time ago. It has come with a "Bench Unit" ( for inverted planing ), Chip bag and a new knife for the cutter block. So I kept all the accessories and sold planer on its own at a good profit to. Now, yesterday I have taken delivery of a latest EHL65 EQ version of a same plane, I have tried to use it with the "Bench Unit", but there seem like a fitting issue where plug it cord meets the support stand.

Could some one shine some light on this as the only thing I can think of is that Festool have updated this product to suit latest version of a planer.

There seem no information or any noticeable  differences between the unit on a festal site and the one I have in the workshop.

Kind regards,

EV

EV, very sorry for originally missing your post. We do not have the new EHL in the US. I will email a colleague from the UK to assist you.

from Axminster "Upgraded version of the EHL 65 Festool Planer with a more compact design and other small improvements to make the machine more refined."

So that is probably why the "E" bits don't fit the "EQ"

Same problem over here with the EHL 65 EQ and the SE-HL base unit.
The plug-it connector doesn't match the spacing of the metal bracket of the base unit.
Another problem I have is that the plastic ring doesn't fit around the handle and the power knob.
Little disordered from Festool.

I think that Festool should replace the plastic ring and metal bracket for free with a registered EHL 65 EQ.
But I don't think it will happen. I'll contact Festool about it.

BTW.
I think it's easy to cut a small metal part away form the bracket with a grinder. As on one of my pictures.
And a tie-wrap or some tape will lock the power button for the time being.

Why do you think it's a Festool problem if you buy a base unit for an "EHL 65E" unit and it doesn't fit a different one?

Unless you were sold the base unit and told it would fit or sold the EHL 65 EQ  and told it would fit the SE-HL bass unit you have it is nothing to do with Festool. Though of course if you were told either of the above then it is a problem for your dealer or Festool.

the se-hl comes up under accessories  for the ehl 65 eq on the fesool uk website- so you would assume it would work- right?

No it dosen't, it is the SE-EHL for the EHL 65 GB EQ and it isn't clear if (probably) it has been modified from the one for the previous model. There is also nothing on the website to tell you that the planer body has been changed.

So if the current base unit doesn't fit the current planer then you have a complaint. But if the new base unit does and the old base unit dosen't you don't.

It's quite simple.
Festool didn't think well enough when redesigning the Plug-it connector and the grip of the EHL 65 EQ version.

The connector should be placed a little lower on the body and each EQ planer should be delivered with a new plastic ring, which only costs 7 euros.
I admit that the SE-EHL is an old design, but it should be easy to design the EQ planer version so that it also fits the bench unit.

Thank you All for a massive response. I haven't anticipated it at all, considering I have  not received a single notification via email, telling me of a new reply.

I have not thought of trigger retainer as pointed above. I am currently awaiting reply from Phil (Festool UK) to let me know if the rear braced can be replaced on the unit with a latest design one. (hopefully for not allot money) I will have to mention trigger retainer to, when I hear back from him.

Un fortunately I am not into modifying equipment as such. even if I have to buy a new unit, I know that I could sell my current one and make a bob or two on ebay as these now been discontinued and I'm sure there will be someone who is gonna be looking for one.

Regards

EV

Well I have got a reply from Phil Beckley of Festool UK Regarding purchasing a rear holder for the bench unit.

Here it is, as per email.

"Hi
Sorry for the delayed reply i had some I.T issues accessing the site from Home.
Ok, below is the ekat drawing with the information for the changed part. This will allow for the plug it lead through the rear support plate. Part number 488281, cost £48.86 including VAT"

  :o :o :o[scared] [scared][eek] [eek] [eek] [eek]

I think I May just be better of purchasing a brand new bench unit for a £3-£4 more.

Today I received the new metal plate and plastic ring for the SE-EHL including a T-Loc Mini.
I got it from Festool Holland FOR FREE. This plate alone costs €45 incl. VAT!
That's what I call "Service All Inclusive".
Only the plastic ring (#438276) still doesn't fit because it's same as the old one.
I'm going to try it again.

Could you please forward your email to them or if it was a conversation over the phone, then tell me what you have told them. As festool uk trying to charge me for the components plus postage.

I simply told them that I already use Festool for 15 years and love the Plug-it cords and that I was changing all my older machines to the ones with Plug-it cords if available.
And that I was disappointed that the EHL65 EQ version doesn't fit the SE-EHL.

They now are also checking the plastic ring again because that one still doesn't fit around the grip.

Needle man, thank you for the response. I shall try this with festool uk. As I have a fair bit of festool gear and old ehl wasn't ideal for me as I'm left handed and having that little button on a side was alway an issue for me.

I tried the plastic ring again and now it fits well over de trigger of the EHL 65 EQ.

Well I did write to festool uk regarding the rear bracket and a new trigger clip. So far I haven't had a replying it had been 3 days now.

If it was Festool USA of Germany it would have been another story. Customer service in the UK is utterly useless. Unless you wave £££££££ in front of them.
