The new Mirka CEROS sander

My original plan was to buy an entire 27mm hose and leave one with the Mirka and use the other one for my RO 90.  Not sure I want to deal with managing 2 hoses though as I would never be using both sanders simultaneously.

I'm thinking of sacrificing 1' of the 27mm hose as well and leave that threaded into the Mirka Ceros.  I don't have a boom arm, so would just be plugging the 27mm hose into the vac.  Let me know if I'm on the right track here.

Put this onto other end of sacrificial piece of 27mm hose?

That sleeve, 493047, is used to connect two 50mm ends - the ends that would normally connect to the inlet on the CT.

It looks like that first pic you got is what I was thinking about using on the end of the pigtail; think that one plugs right in to the 36mm hose.  I use something similar as I have the 36mm on my boom arm; I don't need to run an entirely different hose and when I'm swapping between say the saw or router to the sanders, it's a quick plug in.
 
I make 27mm whip ends for 36mm hoses that are 2' of 27mm hose and have a 487071 (top image) on each end. As Dave stated, it plugs into the tool end of a 36mm hose. It makes it more manageable for tasks like sanding.

Well today I received a Mirka 6" sander from Hartville and was pretty happy to see a nice bonus included - a couple of boxes of 35 sheets each assortments of Abranet, a hat and tape measure.

I gave the sander a try and was made very happy by the power/weight ratio. I'm getting a bit older and sanding vertical surfaces sometimes bothers my shoulders.

One thing that I'm a little concerned about is that the speed control circuit board that sits in the handle doesn't look particularly protected - there are 6 slots in the handle through which you can see the board in the handle. While it probably won't be an issue for me because I'm a  weekend warrior I could see this being a weak point in a more intensive use application. Although I imagine production shops are pneumatic mostly.

This weekend I'm going off to HD to see if I can get me a drain adapter or something similar.
 
After a little under a year of MAJOR abuse, the weak spot is the dust hose connection.
Mine has snapped off but the 27mm hose still pushes on(instead of threading).

That sander is ROCK solid. It might outlive you(if your a hobbyist).  [eek]
 
I simply carved threads onto the D27 tool end.  The one hose works well for the CEROS as well as tools like the Domino where the tool end goes over the port or the crevice tool where the tool end goes inside the port.  I'll put together a post sometime next week (or if you need it now, I can work on it tonight).

Glad to hear it. Mine won't get as much abuse. I knew going in that the dust host was going to require some fiddling. I'm hoping I can come up with a sleeve that works. I have an idea that a heat gun might be the solution....

No hurry on the threading concept for me. I'm not planning any real project for a couple of months.

Your link wasn't working as it has some extra stuff at the end. 

That's the only real drawback on the Mirka Ceros is that the Festool hose doesn't fit without some modification or taking the end off and screwing it on.  I bit the bullet and bought another Festool 27mm hose so I can have one dedicated to the Ceros.  I used some velcro strips and attached the vacuum hose and the power cord and put it in an old Systainer 4 I had lying around (got the idea from Jack Parks - http://festoolownersgroup.com/other-tools-accessories/mirka-ceros/msg153003/#msg153003).  So now I can just take it out and it's ready to go.  I wouldn't trust myself to carve up the end of the hose anyways as I would probably butcher it :)

Unlike Jack though, I have the 6" Mirka Ceros so I also bought a Tanos Systainer 3 and will just build a custom insert to hold the 6" Abranet discs.  I didn't really like the Festool insert and figured I could just make my own and customize it better.
 
I was at the Woodworking Show today, stopped in to chat with the Mirka rep and realized tonight it was a year to the day since I got my Ceros. So here's an update:

Works fine, lasts a long time.

What more can you ask for? I've sanded dozens of sheets of rough-a##ed Baltic Birch to finish-ready, sanded the finish between coats, sanded 2x4s, walnut, red cedar, red oak, white oak, hard maple, yellow pine, you name it: I'm still on the first pad protector using Abranet all the way. I'm not a pro but I'd guess at about 2-300 hours usage in the last year. No glitches, plug it in and it works. Like I said, what more can you ask for?

The Festool 27mm hose is a PITA to use with it, I got the Mirka hose, it's light, flexible and, as far as I can tell, antistatic.  It lives in the bottom drawer of my MFT support table with the sander and cord permanently attached:

I'm old school, there aren't many tools that get [thumbs up] or 10/10 from me but this sander is definitely a 10.

About two years ago the local Festool rep came into the shop I work at and showed us a 5" festal sander exactly like the Mirka. He told us they would be out in 2014. I haven't seen a peep from the rep or mention of the new sander since. I already bought the Mirkas and the Festool is on the shelf.
