Has anyone used this before? Impressions?

I'm in the middle of painting 12 shelves for a side board. I've got 6 shelves spread over my mft and extension table and the other 6 are curing on my STM. Then I'm on to painting 8 cabinet doors which will also have to be done in batches. This is taking forever!

Then I suddenly realized that "Hey if I get a drying rack I can paint everything all at once". After thinking about it even more I realize that finishing is my major bottleneck for all my projects because I use up all of my free surfaces and can't move forward until a few parts are painted or stained.

I like the look of the Pro drying rack as it is on casters, can be disassembled and you don't need to put each rack on so I could use it for larger projects like boxes. I'm also thinking it would make organization of parts a bit easier instead of my usual piling parts on random surfaces hoping to remember where I put them.

Any other options that people like using? I see Rockler also just came out with one but it might end up more expensive to ship it to Canada.

Thanks.

I use the erect a rack fromhttps://erecta-rack.com

It's nice because it is configurable and I can use for anything from cabinet doors to 16' trim pieces to bookshelf sides or shelves.

Thanks for the link and recommendation. Do you know the footprint of the erects Rack? It looks great and heavy-duty but quite large. I'm only in a 12'×19' single car garage. So whatever I bring in has to be as compact as possible.

I love the erectarack. It’s footprint is what you need it to be. I’ve done 12 interior doors all stacked or just a few cabinet doors. The rack becomes the size you need.

When set up as shown in the picture, 40"x40" ... basically the bars are all 40" long. It fits neatly in a duffel bag when not in use which also makes it easy to bring on site.

Here is my example. I can only move as fast as the paint can dry and I do not have much space to spare. The Paint Line Pro has a footprint of 38"X24" and the tower itself is only 13" wide so should be good for a small shop like mine.

Dan, you say the footprint is whatever I need but do you know the minimum? All I can get from the erectarack site is that the crossbars are 40" long. The stabilizer bars look to be about 40" as well. Can I assume that bare minimum the erectarack has to be 40"X40"?

I do like that it collapses into a bag and that it can have a mobility kit. Do you guys have either of these accessories or just the base kit?

Thanks, you must have been replying while I was typing too. Thanks for the info!

Do you have the mobility kit as well?

This is the commercial system we use. Works well.

We also make our own racks, been making them this way for at least 20 years.

I’ll fix the pictures when I get to a computer, iPads do not post here well.

Aww, I was just going to post that you commercial guys REALLY have all the fun stuff, if you're hanging racks upside-down from the ceiling!  [big grin]

I don't have the mobility kit because I never had the need for it and frankly, moving a stack of wet finished parts just seems like a disaster waiting to happen especially for a clumsy oaf like me.

I have the 10 level pro kit and only once in 5 years have I run out of space and needed to set up a folding table for additional drying space because I had 4 cabinet doors more than I had space for. I don't typically do large jobs.

That's how you make maximum use of your floor space.  :-)

After sleeping on it I think everyone is right and I'll order the Erectarack. I like that it disassembles into a small bag when I'm not using it.

I've called a few Sherwin Williams locations to see if anyone has it in stock but no luck. I'll try a few more locations before I give up and just order them online.

was trying to find some info online but few videos. I found this July 2022 review from a pro painter in Canada. He shows actual usage unlike the website. He mentioned they purchased 12 bags of erectarack? I guess that's good endorsement

I think the other system doorrackpainter allows to paint both sides. I can't see erectarack do the same or maybe I missed something

I own the pro drying rack and like it. mine came from hafele but they are all pretty much the same. the casters look different on the paint life unit the casters on the hafele unit are heavy duty and roll well.  the stow ability of the other is a double edged sword. just depends on what you need most.

Joelm, a bit off topic but where did you buy the LED light hanging off the bandsaw?

minime, that's where I keep my Festool Syslite ll.

The magnetic base is great at keeping it on the bandsaw  [smile]

My erectarack showed up today. Thanks for all the recommendations.

I just wish I had ordered this sooner. I could have been done all my painting by now. But it will still come in handy for future projects.
